  • Bears, camp ethics, trail info

Jeri-Lyn was concerned about bears, with rights to do so. Bears will come thru and rumage for food, coolers, bear-packs, whatever. NO FOOD in your tent!! It's recommended to hang food, cover coolers with blankets and sprinkle with cayene pepper.
In doing a little research on the area since I have never been there, the first site that comes up is here: http://www.rubicontrail.com
They have good links to a variety of information. There is also a current trail report thread/feature on the pirate forum. Links from the above site for specifics.

Some one will need to get a fire permit. I usually have one by now but I haven't been out to the forest yet to need one. Greg Hoffman gives them away at work parties, but we didn't see him last time out. If Jason is up there again between now and then he can pick one up from the ranger station. Or anyone can for that matter. I don't remember if Jason was coming along on the trip or not, I thought he had signed up.

I've been thinking more about the jeep doors situation and may do as Sarah suggests and drop them somewhere in Tahoe on Thursday. Going to do some more research on what this trip is all about. Got a coleman grill/stove combo this weekend. Pett potty and tent coming.

Has Brian committed to lead the second group along yet? Or Erik?

    Getting excited!!

Good info here with up-to-the-moment data.

Sounds like the word is getting out, reports are that the place is looking good. Good write up on July 4th activity. The number I saw was 350 people over the weekend.

I have inquired with FOTR (Friends of the Rubicon) about their vehicle stickers. Anybody else want a couple if they have some left?

        • So I had to put one of my cats to sleep on Tuesday. To say the least it really sucked. I am going to check out the local animal shelters this weekend as my wife wants a new cat as soon as possible.

What does this have to do with the Rubicon? With a new pet in the house, I just don't feel it right to be leaving for an extended time while it is trying to adjust. With that, I won't be able to go this year.

Tom, I won't be needing those Wagg Bags so if Erik still needs let him have them. If you can't find some one to take them I'll still buy them but let someone that needs them have first dibs.

Hope everyone has a safe and fun time.
          Michael

                              • Last year I got kind of wet too. My starter was a little weird for a couple of days after that water crossing. So I had to go get bigger tires and a LA lift to keep dry this time around. That was some stickey muddy water.
