It's closed to vehicles. Camping is allowed, as is walking in. Current information at the end of the thread here: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=351636

There's also a good recap on the clean-up effort last year there:

Such a beautiful area from the photos. It's a shame that it's been so abused.

It sure it a beautiful place. Buck Island is really nice as well, plus its not as crowded usually.

I just remembered, bring some cash. There is a 5 or 10 dollar camping fee at rubicon springs.

      • If we happen to get there first, we will save the spot from last year... I will rope us off or something like that. Maybe kite string...

        • Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I just discovered that the fuel leak I fixed is NOT fixed. There is no way this is safe and unless I sort it by tomorrow or early Friday, I am off the list.

This is a '95 YJ 4cyl with a factory 20 gallon tank. The leak is on the passenger's side- all the way on the side towards the front.

We thought it might be from the tank hitting a small cross member on the frame, but that doesn't seem likely. The spot itself is REALLY hot and I think this is the source. I am thinking the heat is being caused by exhaust gasses but I'm not sure. The exhaust has been "modified" to be cut just in front of the rear axle- all smog stuff and resonator are still there- but it is over a foot away from the problem spot and also right where the factory pip e would be routed.

The strange part is that I drove it as is to OH from CO and then back to CO and then CA but didn't have any issues until 2/3 of the trip from CO to CA. I've tried JB weld, but even that is not holding. I'm concerned to get a new tank as I think the same thing will happen.

          HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

          • Desperately seeking castor angle for my unlimited, just put a long arm kit on and forgot to measure before.Got 500 miles to drive in the morning.

            • Alignment specs:

              Yep, it's a long drive isn't it?

Your manufacturer should have given you a starting arm length that will set the pinion/axle/castor angle close enough. It's not critical as long as there is 'some' castor and your pinion lines up with the DS. It will create light or heavy steering as it will tend to make the wheels return to center more or less.

Normally, if you set your pinion shaft to point directly at your driveshaft with a degree or two down, your castor will be close enough.

Here's the castor description and specs for the TJ out of the FSM. I can't imagine it would be any different for the Unlimited:

              STANDARD PROCEDURE - CASTER
Before each alignment reading the vehicle should
be jounced (rear first, then front). Grasp each
bumper at the center and jounce the vehicle up and
down three times. Always release the bumper in the
              down position.
Check the caster of the front axle for correct angle.
Be sure the axle is not bent or twisted. Road test the
vehicle and observe the steering wheel return-to-center
position. Low caster will cause poor steering
              wheel returnability.
During the road test, turn the vehicle to both the
left and right. If the steering wheel returns to the
center position unassisted, the caster angle is correct.
However, if steering wheel does not return toward
the center position unassisted, a low caster angle is
              probable.
Caster can be adjusted by installing cam bolts and
rotating the cams on the lower suspension arm (Fig.
              2).
NOTE: Changing caster angle will also change the
front propeller shaft angle. The propeller shaft
angle has priority over caster. Refer to Group 3, Differential
              and Driveline for additional information.

Button 'er up, set the toe and draglink to center your wheel and road test 'er. See how it feels.

              See you tomorrow night....

              • Damn-I'm down to the wire: still trying to get the ARB and the compressor connected to each other. The solenoid was missing the "1/8" b.s.p. nipple". Anyone know what the b.s.p. stands for?

Hoped to have the winch in, but not looking too good.

british standard pipe, I believe. I broke one a while ago, the only place I could find one was all 4 wheel drive in corona. Regular 1/8th ich pipe is not the same, dont try it.

                            • I know most have left, but I think I sorted the leak. I got some plastic steel and verified there was no impact on the Jeep with the tank, so we are intalling the tank tonight and I think I'm sorted.

I gotta write down all the cell numbers. TALK ABOUT BUTTERFLIES!!!!!!!!
