Open diffs? That makes it somewhat unpredictable since you may have to bump it over some things. Stock rubicons did excellent last year since they just crawled over everything with lockers and gears even with the puney 31's and the low belly.
My main advice would be do not get careless at any moment. As brian said, it's one looooong rock garden so you have to be constantly careful and watching what you do. But it certainly can be done if you don't mind the potential for some body damage (depending on how you drive of course)

I wouldn't even think of going without serious rocker guards ... diff guards would certainly help as well. I had an oil pan skid which also saved my butt once. When I took it off after the trip, it had a nice bend in it but no damage to the oil pan.
Oh, and definitely have a couple of spare lower control arms. I bent two of them but nothing too bad that I couldn't drive it home. Edit: These were stock rubicon control arms ... so pretty flimsy stuff.

Like the guys said this is quite a serious trail. Last year, in case you hadn't heard, we had an extreme rollover that totalled the vehicle. I would recommend finding the hardest trail near your home and running that before you join us. If you feel comfortable, and you're willing to take it up a notch, then I'd say "go for it."
Being that I don't have a lot of expierience on rough stuff I think I will sit this one out. I do have alot more I need to do to my jeep, ie: rockers. The roughest thing I have run out here was last chance and up on sherman pass. All my other expieriences were in high school back in wyoming. Needless to say I shouldn't get myself into something that I am not ready for. Maybe next year.

Im on 33's with 3:73's...manual transmission, not auto. Lifted a total of 3.5", Ive got good rocker protection, and a nicely custom reinforced gas tank skid and a Kilby steering box skid. I wouldnt consider doing this with ANYTHING LESS.
Hope that helps.

2002 TJ on 35s a bit of lift with some stuff
Rock-ItMan all the way around
Im still going and am sure i will go with the 33's group, since i have 33's.
But i was wondering, where is the last place i can fill up before the trail? Is tis before the icehouse meeting? Also would one tank be enough? This trail is not that long it just is time consuming because of the obstacles it has, correct? So i was thiking of filling up at the last place and bringing another 5 gallons with me on the run. Thanks everyone

I dont remember seeing gas at ice house or robs place. Placervillle maybe the last place to get gas. As long as you fill up before you hit the trail I dont believe you will need extra gas.

This goes for everyone! The Rubicon IS NOT just another trail. Its very difficult, challanging, and trying . . . for both vehicles and drivers!
This is the LAW: 33 inch tires and a lift to fit them, unlocked is ok. It can be done on 31 (some kind of mud terrains) and locked front and rear. Bald A/T's dont cut it, nor does any other worn out tire. no trailers, please.
I will be the one to tell you . . . if you are not set up accordingly, we dont want you there. Sorry!
Rocker guards are a MUST, Diff guards WILL be used, as well as gas tank skids. Its not a dirt road. Think of the most difficult trail you've ever run(Hammers excluded ), now drive the hardest part of that trail non stop for 3 days.
We want to have fun. What we dont want is a bunch of people getting in over their heads. We would hate for anyone to be that one person that inisists on going, and later trashes their junk and hold the group up.
