  • Rear truss time. I want to do something different, something I've not seen before. Since there is a bridge theme forming with the forward xmember, I decided to mimic the look somewhat on the rear truss. Time consuming but I like the way it is turning out.

Poster board template. No wasted metal here boys...

    Upper piece came out perfect

Making all the spacers. I never realized how difficult it is to get 10 little pieces of metal cut to exactly 1 inch. Harbor Freight bandsaws... can't work with em, can't afford the TNT to blow em up!

Almost done. Tomorrow will be tack and weld time. Should be a full evening of burning wire.

    Corona time!

    • How the heck are you going to weld those 1 inch strips in there? You can't get the mig gun in there very well can you?

      (needs holes!! haha )

1" tube would have worked well, easier to cut and weld them to the front and rear face. Will even allow for
            Swiss cheese speedholes

Good idea Art. I thought about round tube too but I like the way the plate looks. Its not hard to weld this. I made a small diameter nozzle for the welder that fits in the gap. But you can count on there being some "speed" holes...

I hope you like. If not, better speak up now! And yes, it's going to whistle like an artillery simulator...

A few more pics. Going slowly on this because I am making a dimensional drawing for it. PITA but worth it.

Meh.. I had to weld way fast to keep the metal from pulling. You can see it in the welds. But they ran deep and hot. Next time I use square tube... ART!

It's different and that is what I was going for. Who cares if it snaps off on the first obstacle...
