  • Upgrade...Thanks for the diff protection Mike! I better go put some oil in it before I forget.

Well I have a little consolation for buying the boat motor, the crank in it was good, mine was not. So at least not a total waste.

Machine guy is bumping me up, might be done early next week. Fingers crossed.

    • Wow! Awesome job of cleaning that thing up! It should last you for as long as you need it now.

      Recycling! See we ARE greenies!

      • OP is the poster boy of recycling....

Thanks! I put a nice piece of 1/4 plate on the front of the diff cover and a quick coat hammered paint. Should definitely be tougher than the pretty stainless one. Kind of looks like a robot with a fat lip to me...

Started working on my customized Savvy corners. My tub is a different size than new jeeps, so I chopped them down to size with a regular carbide blade on the skill saw. Worked fine but lost a couple of teeth in the process. Hopefully I will finish them up this weekend. Need to cut wheel wells and drill some different mounting holes.

All this stuff is almost keeping my mind off the fact that I have to wait until Tuesday for my engine rebuild kit to come in from northernautoparts.com. Then I have to wait for the machine shop to do it's work.

        • motor rebuild

I got the block back from the machine shop on friday afternoon. Got it washed down, the cam and crank in. Checked the main bearing clearances and all looked good. Got the pistons and timing set in. Hopefully I will be finishing it up this week and breaking it in this weekend.

          • Got everything together and dropped the engine back in. Did my cam break in, 30 minutes between 1200-1800 rpm. Timing was stead as could be. That is a change, it used to move around constantly. Vacuum was steady and right around 18-20 at that rpm range. Oil pressure was 50psi once warmed up. My big goof up was that I left the rad cap off to get all the air out and make sure I had enough water in there. Then I forgot about it and when it warmed up, it overflowed onto the fan and sprayed everything, so much for a spotless engine...

Now I need to finish break in and go run it.

Thanks to Chuck for the lift, Art for the stand and Kurt for the big dog torque wrench!!

            • Oh yeah, I have been so wrapped up in my engine I forgot to thank GP4Play for the spare rim that is a very close match to my slotted mags and freewaydan for mounting up my spare. I will no longer have to carry different lug nuts for my spare, yee haw!

                    • It never ends lol, you get more power which leads to bigger tires, that leads to bigger rocks so it never ends.

                      • Get the headers on yet? Able to dyno it before and after to see if there are any real power gains?

                        • Not yet, I don't know anyone with a dyno - I wish I did, that would be interesting.

All kidding aside that is a very clean rig you are running there and some great photography too.

Hope to meet you on the trails soon

                            • LOL! Thanks, I will take the compliment. It was a lot of fun building it (not to imply that it is done, in fact I am working on it right now). I sure I will see you out there soon.

Zoobi...supercharger...I like your thinking! I knew I kept it low compression for some reason.

I still haven't had time to get those headers on.

                                They never are done.

While I did not make mine I did order some fenders and they should be here tomorrow so I will bolt those on with the best of them and for sure want to hit a trail.

Maybe Cleghorn again on Sunday? may be a little sloppy but that just makes it more fun wanna join?
