Jeep Trail Reports
Red Mountain Mining Area
From Corkscrew Gulch, we dropped into Silverton for lunch (and maybe a little bit of souvenir shopping). There’s not many choices in this tiny town, but we haven’t been disappointed yet. Next trail – Red Mountain Mining Area. Geotags
Red Mountain Mining Area is an easy trail located between Silverton and Ouray off of Highway 550. The trail climbed quickly from the highway and even surpassed the tree line. Hence the name, we saw old mining buildings, signs and equipment. The gorgeous meadows were perfect for sighting deer – which of course we did! We took our time on the winding trail and even had box seats to the approaching storm. By the end of the day, the dark clouds had finally caught up with us (and let us test the water-tightness of the new soft top & doors – you guessed it, they leak).
We began our descent back to the highway and concluded our first day of the ’07 Colorado trip.
