  • Anza Borrego, Jan 2/3/4

Hey all. A couple of us are getting together to play around Anza Borrego on the weekend of the 3rd/4th. I'll be showing up some time on the 2nd, the official meeting time/spot is the Corrizo Badlands overlook (on S-2) at 9:00 Sat. morning. The trails are undecided, but likely stops will be the squeeze, window rock, heart attack hill, sandstone canyon, possibly the mud caves, the old stage stop (likely to have mud on the way), diablo drop off, etc.

So far the group is small (2 tj's, possibly one zj, and one s-10 with 33's and a virgin ARB). Only the tj's are definates. The plan is to camp somewhere Sat. night, play a bit sunday morning, and head for home around noon.

    Stock jeeps will do fine.

    Any interest?

This sounds fun. I promise not to flash my oil pan.

I will check the drive time from Hollywierd.

I just got back from camping on Mt. Laguna - 17 degrees out and plenty of snow. Now, the desert sounds nice. Most of the crowds should be gone by the third too.

I have not seen most of those things while out there, a trip around the area sounds like a blast.

              I'm in!

Al, correct. It is basically the area west of the Salton Sea, south of the 78, and north of the 8.....it surrounds Ocotillo Wells, although we will probably be south of there most of the time. The area we will be in is green sticker only, so you don't get all the bikes and quads and buggies that you do in ocotillo wells SVRA.

Glad to see there is some interest here. I'll post directions to the meeting spot and GPS coordinates in a day or two, went I get a few spare minutes to plot out some points.

A little too far for me. Once per year in that area is good for me (TDS in March).

I might try to make it but it will have to be a Saturday day trip. Anyone planning to leave from the Los Angeles area early Saturday morning?

I would like to make a day trip on Saturday. I am in Hollywood. Is there a restaurant or gas station where everyone could meet? It seems easy to find people that way. But if that's not possible...

I've never been to AZ, but it's 6 hours 406 miles according to Yahoo from where I live.

I am in the San Gabriel Valley which is about 30-45 minutes east of Hollywood. Travel to Anza Borrego is via 10 east. Anywhere along 10 would work depending upon how many people are interested. A 6:00 or 7:00 am departure will get you into Anza around 9:00am or so from most of the Los Angeles area.

I have met at Cabazon off I10 (where the giant dinasour is) with a few groups in the past before. There is a Burger King and I think Dennys there as well. It is pass the outlet mall and casino. It is probably about 1 1/2 hour out of LA. We can meet closer to town if there are more people around the LA area as well.

According to my map program, Hollywood to Anza is 209 miles. Travel time will depend on your average speed. In my old truck, we could usually get 75-80 mph on the Highway (especially early in the morning). I have not travelled with a group of jeeps so I will need to adjust the average speed a little bit.

I guess Yahoo doubled the time, if it's a 3 hour drive I might be up for it. Good way to see AZ for the first time.
