This a shot of the Rattlesnake that we saw saturday morning heading to the M & G. 3N45 at sbout 3000'. Not a Mojave Green, doesn't look right for a Diamondback...... Please try to identify for me.

Don't know much about snales, but do know this the little young rattlers you really do not want to mess with they are the most deadly they release all their venom at once not a good thing.
I love Yosemite, especially in spring when all the streams and waterfalls are roaring with the snow melt.
Makes for an awesome time to hike

It's tough to be sure from the headless photo, but it looks like a species of Speckled Rattesnake. It looks too gray to be a Western Speckled but it still could be. 3N45 is in the Cajon Pass at about 3800 feet, so it is still in the species' habitat.

I just found it. It is a "Crotalus Oreganus Helleri" or Southern Pacific Rattlesnake.

Loma Linda emergency room physician Dr. Sean Bush is recognized as a specialist in treating snakebites. He has appeared on the television show "Venom ER."

Zerwekh identified the snake that bit him as a Southern Pacific -- the snake Bush blames most for the rising number of serious bites he is seeing.

"The Southern Pacific has long been overlooked as one of the most, if not the most dangerous snakes in Southern California or even all of California," Bush said.

I like to think that I am one of those people who does not need to learn every lesson first hand... When they say these are bad, I take their word for it. My grandpa used to have a few very poetic sayings... a couple of my favorite are: "Son, don't trust anything that can't shake your hand..." and he used to say, "Don't trust anything that doesn't have shoulders!" :doh

This guy fit the typical description of a snake,"they usally want nothing to do with you and will retreat if not threatened". I jumped out of my Jeep and approached carefully. I started to point ther camera and that snake rattled and did a "U" turn and sped off. Slow digital camera=no face shot!

Why is it that people who are deathly afraid of snakes always see them, and I have a hard time finding them and I know where and what to look for? This sucks! Next time you see one Mitch, just speak reallll nice to him and ask to get a head shot...

Trying something a little different. This is my 2nd attempt at HDR post processing. Still got a lot to learn. This is defiantly an acquired taste for some but I find these types of photos when done properly pretty awesome. This was taken off the side of the road on the way to Fawnskin. Shot in Raw, converted to 5 different exposures in Olympus Studio, combined in Photomatix, and touched up in Corel Paint Shop Pro. Your feed back is appreciated.

Chuck, that is and awesome shot..very calming to look at, it almost looks like a painting on a wall really cool!!!

Color and tone are great. I recognized the location immeadiatly, because I have seen it look like that in real life, so to reproduce it in HDR is fine with me.
