ahh, yea that sounds different than what my idle problem was. I still can't believe that little trick of slapping your hand on the carburetor inlet. It fires right up with some throttle and no choke, and is ready to idle with no additional throttle about 10 seconds after start up!

I've had good luck with this hub puller from jc whitney:

Regarding the potential vacuum leak, check the make sure the throttle shaft bushing aren't excessively worn. More info here:

This is just cool. I can't wait to see how it turns out. I think there may be another one of these Jeeps for sale in Redondo Beach off of Artesia on the North side as you head towards the mall from Hermosa. This makes me want to stop in and take a look...

Ok I got all but just a few items done on the brakes and suspension. The engine is another thing all together. Actually not too bad but it was not a happy camper; to start-
point gap was .060 (.020 recommended)
Dwell was over 50 (45 recommended)
Plugs were gapped at .010 (.020 recommended)
There are no timing marks on wither the pulley or the timing cover. The only timing marks are on the flywheel.
The distributor is frozen in the bore so changing timing ain't gonna happen until I get it out and fix that.
The carburetor was not set up correctly so I had to do some tinkering and figure out that set up.
So, with all the above set to the correct settings, the engine starts right up and purrs like a little four cylinder kitten full of angry gerbils. Throttle response is very crisp. So I think that hurdle is cleared.
              Onto the transmission and tcase.

Oh, daniel, more pics are coming...

Oh Kurt, something that you might not be aware of, what type of oil to put in the transmission/transfer case. Apparently they are quite picky because of some of the metal types in there. The correct one (for the 2a, and I can only assume for the 3a as well) is 90w GL1 Mineral Gear Oil, you can buy it at Napa in either 1 gallon bottles or 5 gallon buckets.

Apparently it can be quite damaging if you use regular GL-4 / GL-5 Hypoid gear oil. FYI

Yes I checked that out too. I've been doing a shit ton of reading to make sure I am doing the right things here. This 60 year old machinery is not used to new technology fluids...
                          Thanks for the heads up!

Naa, just curious. This one here now is PITA enough. But it would be fun to have one. So any luck finding tires? I want to break these wheels down and wire brush and paint them. Figure the break down part could happen somewhere in Hermosa Beach?
