• CJ: Which Tires Are Best?

My question isn't about the width of the wheel, but to ask your opinions on the various tires and manufacturers out there...

I am going from 33's to 35's... I want the BFG KM2 but am being told by everyone that they are on backorder width a minimum of a 3 month wait... I need 15"...

So, I am considering these other brands... Please chime in with your opinion on these manufacturers... Any good and especially bad experiences you have had with any of these would be much appreciated...

I am considering:
BFG KM2 (but as I mentioned they are on backorder)
Pro Comp Mud Terrain http://www.4wheelparts.com/Tires/Pro...&t_pn=PCT25035
Pro Comp XTerrain http://www.4wheelparts.com/Tires/Pro...&t_pn=PCT35035
Pro Comp Xtreme Mud Terrain http://www.4wheelparts.com/Tires/Pro...&t_pn=PCT65035
Mickey Thompson MTZ http://www.4wheelparts.com/Tires/Mic...t_pn=M%2fT5254
Mickey Thompson Baja Claw http://www.4wheelparts.com/Tires/Mic...t_pn=M%2fT5756
Kumho Road Venture MT http://www.kumhousa.com/Tire.aspx?id=49&cat=25
Remington Mud Brute http://www.remingtontire.us/Pages%20II/lightruck.html
Hankook Dyno Pro MT http://www.hankooktireusa.com/produc...il.asp?pid=358

You guys have forgotten more about this stuff than I think I will ever learn... I appreciate and value your input.
Regards,
Randy

I'm running ProComp xTreme AT's, and am awesomely happy with them. I was very surprised at how well they perform. I only got them because I got a smokin' deal on 'em, but I was very pleasantly surprised.

ProComps, Mickey Thompson, and Dick Cepek tires are made by Cooper, btw...great products all around. You can't go wrong with any of them.

I am looking at those Coopers, they are awesome looking and perform well so I've seen... and for the $$, you can't go wrong. I love my MTR's, but I am lookin' hard at the Coopers...

I would love to go with MT?R's... but I couldn't find that they were making the 15" tire anymore... maybe I was overlooking it... not sure...

I am leaning towards the ProComps...

I can get a really good deal and with a really killer warranty...

I can only speak for two tires on your list. I loved my ProComp XTerrains but I hated the 2 ply side wall. The only way to get a 3 ply Xterrain is to go to a 37. If it was me (and it just was) I would remove all two plys from your list (unless you get a good warranty).

I just got my 35" 12.50x15 KM2's last week. They were on back order for 6 weeks but I only waited 3 weeks. I have only used them once and you saw what they did. I don't think they grip as good as my XTerrains but I was happy with there performance. They are also really quite on the road which I liked. I think I need to try a lower psi since the sidewalls are much thicker.

I had cooper stt's they do pretty well ofroad, they just chunk very easily every trip you loose a bunch of rubber chunks also not a good tire for a 4 banger they do not roll worth a darn
Had 33x12.50's got me 14 mpg on my 4 popper
then went to 32"x11.50 mtr's milage went to 16-17 mpg
then went to 35 x 12.50 Mickey Thompsom baja mtz's milage went to 17-18 mpg go figure
With the coopers as soon as you let of the gas it was as if the brakes got applied it would slow down in a heartbeat, very high rolling resistance.

I know Art speaks from his experience, but I've really not had any of the problems he's had. I know that Cooper did change thier tire design not too long ago, perhaps these problems were why they changed design.

I couldn't be happier with my Coops. They grip like spider man and tear through snow like a yetti. I've heard they're great mud tires also, but that icky mud stuff is for the birds.

Ultimately, I believe I will buy them again, even if I don't get a great deal like I did for the set I have now.

I'm on the third set of ProComp X terrains, Love 'em. Haven't had any trouble with two ply side walls. 35 12.50 15s on 15X8s, never burp, never rolled a bead, puntured one side wall. They S.U.C.K in the snow, but that just makes snow runs more interesting

im running the procomp xtreme mud terrains and i love them 31x10.5x15's, they are nice on the road, great in the mud! good in the snow, and they stop decent on ice, not like thats a problem for you! 2 other tires i have seen work out well are the baja claws and the yokohama geolander mtrs (directional). stay away from the goodyear wrangler mtrs in my opinion, a set didnt last 8 months on my boss's chevy. good luck!

Randy I have a place that has the bfg km2 for very cheap but I have to check stock on them and see if americas tire will price match which they usually will. I plan on buying a set for myself very soon probably next week. PM me if you want info. I thought the procomps are made by cooper. Not related but I used to mount truck tires and coopers were the worst wearing tire out of all of them not to mention the tread separated on them alot.

Goodyear's website shows a 33 and 35 inch MT/R for a 15 inch rim.

Here they are on Tire Rack's site: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....e1=yes&place=8
