Drew, since coming from I15 I would take CA 18 (not sure the exit, hope some of the Apple Valley people can chime in) which will dump you right at 247 in Lucerne. Not sure the distance or travel time to get to 247 from I15 via Ca 18. From there Boone Rd is about 30 minutes and will be on your left. Big brown sign for it, real hard to miss.

I-15 to D Street exit ... to get to HWY 18. It takes about 45 minutes to get to Johnson Valley once you reach Apple Valley, which is only a few miles from the 15.

For those that are coming this weekend!! It will be safe of you to bring your own food!!! The concession guy didn't make it out there Saturday the 11th, but did on the 12th. I will be there again as Judge. If you see a chili pepper red jeep with Marvin on it, that's me!!!

Hogdon, they are always looking for more help there. During the Rock crawling they had only 8 judges for so many events. Saturday I had to judge 2 stages and on Sunday I judged 3 and on Sunday one of our judges sprained his ankle. If you are going to help plan on being there at about 7:30 and look for Heidi, Trey, Bob, or Shon. (Yes, that's spelled correctly)
Ok, tnx for the info, I will try to be there around that time (with food).
:gun: My garage ain't cluttered, it's just cozy with crap.

Thanks you everybody, for simplifying directions to the Rock Races. It is much appreciated.

Race was excellent!!! Afterall, yours truly got to start them off. Locked94yj broke his heep by trying to get up to his spot to be checkpoint. He did get out (finally). I also saw Blaine, Brian (BlkTJ), and Erik, TonkaDave (nice to meet you and Blaine). The others, sorry didn't have time to meet you.

We started off with 8 rigs (2 Heavy Class, 2 Middle and 4 stockers [that's what they called it]) and we ended with 5 going through the second time. All had a good time from the reports I heard. We had 1 spectator flown out by chopper due to a heart attack and she's the mother of our food vendor. Haven't heard how she's doing. I wasn't able to have "Marvin" up there due to the Jeep being in the shop with a slipping rear ring gear. The Jeep is at a new 4X4 shop in Hesperia called Reduction Box 4X4 Shop.

That's all that I can think of from the race.

here are a couple of pics from this weekend. i didnt get the opertunity to take many pictyures of our small group playing on the rocks, but there are plenty of the craziness in the rock racing competition.

it seems some of the spotters didnt think much of their hands.

it was a lot of fun watching these guys race through the rocks. the most entertaining were the yellow jeep, which was just not quite prepared for the challenge.. i think the driver got a bit flustered, and never really recovered from it.
that jeep wound up with quite a bit of damage at the end of it all.

my favorite by far is the little cj2a or whatever that is with the dog spotter. if he did'nt win the time, he certainly should have gotten some style points for having that dog spot him through a nearly flawless run through the trail.

enjoy the rest of the pictures, which can be found HERE

Had a good time at the races other then having to watch out for falling rocks from the people climbing the hill above everyone. There were quite a few close calls. I got a lot of video of the yellow Jeep smashing it up right before the checkpoint. You can hear the load snap of his right front axle. The old flatfender was awesome completing the course so fast with only his dog spotting him. Ran into Nailer and the group at the very end. Saw King4wd2 at the bottom of the hill but didn't realize it was her till she posted here. After the races we went for a scenic drive to Big Bear to see the snow.
Some kids knocked a rock onto the roof of her jeep when she was in this spot.

A couple more pics in my Gallery. I will try to link in some vids soon.

The toy was actually in the Heavy class so Joel McClure got first in that category and overall, in the middle class it was Harold in the "off again" Jeep since the yellow TJ broke his axle and his winchline. In the stockers I'm thinking that it was Kathy in the blue and silver YJ. I'm not sure who won that category since I had 2 little ones tired and cranky. For those who came you probably saw my twin sister and the front gate trying to sell Girl Scout cookies as well.

Erik, How was JackHammer?? Some specatators thought you guys were going to do the race until I told them no, and that you were actually doing the JackHammer trail. And told them that I knew a few of you.

                              Go fast rock krawling!
I have got to see this sometime.
You would have to be insane to enter this event.
But I would like to watch from a safe distance.
