Hey all -- been following the thread. Is it cool for kids to come (I know drinking @ the fire for NYE is planned, which is awesome!)? Or, is this an adult only event? Don't want to be "the guy with the kid" guy...got a three day wknd and thought this be a great event. Thanks!

...storm to affect southwest california late tuesday night and
wednesday followed by very cold weather...
A strong storm approaching from the northwest will move through late
tuesday night and wednesday morning with showers lingering through
the day wednesday. This fast moving system should tap into deep
moisture resulting in a period of moderate to heavy precipitation
with the frontal passage wednesday morning.
The snow level will be near 6000 feet north to 6500 feet south and
then lower rapidly behind the cold fron to about 4000 feet.
However...most of the widespread significant precipitation will be
over by the time the snow level lowers to 4000 ft.
Rainfall totals should range from about a third to two thirds of an
inch in the coastal and valleys areas with three quarters of an inch
to an inch and a quarter on the coastal mountain slopes. There will
generally be more rain in the north and less to the south. The high
deserts should get up to half an inch of rain with less than a
quarter of an inch in the lower deserts.
San bernardino county mountain resort levels and the higher
riverside county mountains should receive about 3 to 8 inches of
snow. However...there could be locally near a foot of snow on the
highest peaks. The higher san diego county mountains could get an
inch or two of snow. Cold air damming on the north side of the
san bernardino mountains could result in snow flurries in the high
deserts.
Strong gusty onshore winds will accompany this system becoming even
stronger behind the front wednesday night. The strongest winds will
be in the mountains and high deserts where there could be wind gusts
over 60 mph. These winds could cause broken tree limbs...downed
trees and downed power lines.
Dry cold northwest flow aloft will bring temperatures about 10 to
20 degrees below seasonal averages thursday and friday. There will
likely be widespread frost in the inland valleys thursday and friday
nights.
Additional rainfall will cause rapid runoff and flooding due to
nearly saturated ground from recent rain. This could result in
flooding of low lying areas. There could be debris flow in and
below recently burned areas as well as rock and mud slides on steep
terrain...and further erosion of rain soaked hillsides.
People traveling late tuesday and wednesday should closely monitor
the latest national weather service forecasts and statements and
plan accordingly. The rain will cause slick roads and motorists
should use extra caution. Do not drive through flooded areas or
around barricades. If traveling into the mountains...be prepared for
the possibility of winter storm conditions with very low winds chill
temperatures.John & Kristi

Chuck, I'll be leaving Thursday morning. I'll be taking my 1951 Crown travel trailer on her maiden voyage. I took it on a test run north on Hwy 247 to the top of the ridge overlooking Stoddard Valley It did very well, but it'll be slow going. Keep a look out for me. The trailer The shape of a canned ham and is white and you know my Jeep.
Bummer is LeAnne is sick and won't be coming.Last edited by Roger; 12-27-10, 10:57 PM.SBCO Fire Dept. CERT volunteer

As for weather, it can have lava flows popping up out of the ground, hurricaine winds, and a 4 foot snowfall for all I care.
I WILL be there for New Year's Eve.
I am still hoping that I can get free from work on Friday morning to head down to the Pinyon Mtn trail head. If work doesn't interfere, I can meet up with anyone that wants to caravan along the way.
Unfortunately, I will not know for sure if I have Friday free until Thursday morning. If you can deal with the uncertainty and the short notice, let me know.
KURT! What time should I meet you and the rest of the group at the Pinyon Mountain trail head on Friday morning?MYJEEP(crawls)ROCKS(again).com
I have finally stopped drinking for good.
Now I drink for evil.....

Are there any other hams that I missed? I suggest we use the Monument Peak repeater (147.24+ 103.5) for long distance communications and the usual MJR simplex (146.55) for local communications.
Monument Peak: High Level East San Diego Site: 2 miles North of Mt. Laguna, 48 miles West of El Centro, and 105 miles West of Yuma, Arizona: covers east San Diego County, Imperial County, El Centro, Brawley, the Salton Sea, Blythe, Yuma, AZ and the Anza-Borrego desert area.If you don't like the way I drive, stay out of the bushes!

Chuck, I'll be picking up I-10 at Hwy 62 from Morongo/Yucca Valley. Probably near the same time you are going by there. I'll give you a cell call when I get near the I-10.
Russ - Thanks for repeater research. I'll get Monument Peak programmed in my radios.SBCO Fire Dept. CERT volunteer
