Trail Run: Rubicon Trail - Weekend Run

For those that want to run the Rubicon on a weekend. We will leave Loon lake at 0900 on Friday the 18th of July. First camp spot will be Buck Island Lake. Next camp spot will be Rubicon Springs (there is a fee for Rubicon Springs, last time it was $10 per vehicle). We will be heading up Cadilac Hill Sunday morning for our trip home. This is a great trail and everyone should expect possible damage. [COLOR="Red"]Stockers are not welcome (except Rubicons)[/COLOR]. At least one locking differential is required for this run. You do not want to be that person that is stuck at every obstacle. Everyone should make sure they pack correctly. Pack like you ar backpacking. You will need some spares. If everyone brings somethings, then we can share.

The Rubicon is ALOT of fun, but it can also kick your ass. It is a test of both your rig and your driving ability. Please read the minumum requirements below and plan accordingly.

Maximum Allowed Rigs: [COLOR=red]15[/COLOR]

Vehicle Minimum Requirements:

• 33" Tires and appropriate lift (Open Diffs with a skilled driver will do fine)
• 32" Tires and appropriate lift (One locker required, 2 recommended)
• 31" Mud terrain/agressive tire, Some lift required (Stock Rubicons and/or 2 Lockers MINIMUM!)

SKIDS!!!:

• Gas Tank - Minimum!
• T-case - Minimum!
• Rockers - Minimum!
• Steering box - Minimum!
• Everything else is gravy

SPARES!!!:

• Axle shafts - Front and Rear
• U-joints - Axle and driveshaft
• Steering components - Tie rod/draglink, Tie Rod Ends
• Spare Tire - One that holds air with good tread (no slicks)
• Brake lines - stock ones don't count
• Small electrical components/sensors
• Make sure all this stuff fits your jeep and you know how to fix it! I dont want to have to fix your broken junk for you!

Various fluids:

• Brake fluid
• Engine Oil
• Tranny fluid
• Gear oil
• At least 2 quarts of everything your jeep uses.

Camping

• Free-Standing Tent . . . does not require staking
• Sleeping bags
• Air Mattress or Sleeping Pad
• FOOD - Breakfast (if you have time), lunch and Dinner.
• [COLOR=red]WATER[/COLOR]
• Stove to cook said food
• Flashlights
• [COLOR=sienna]SHITTER[/COLOR]!! You MUST HAVE A CAMP TOILET!!! I dont care what it is, digging a hole is not acceptable! (Sarah has extra shitters, see the thread and sign the poll if you want one.)
• Way of transporting said DUMP off the trail, I dont care what this is either as long as it doesnt float down stream!
• T.P. for your cornhole
• Camp Soap (Biodegradable) NOT REGULAR SOAP!!
• BUG SPRAY - The more DEET, the better!
• Camp Chairs

Is there a secure place for my tow rig and trailer? I'd really like to do the run. I might even trailer my Jeep behind my RV to spend a few extra days up there.

You used to be able to leave the rigs at Ice house. I will contact them to see if we can still leave rigs there. They used to charge a small fee (like $5 per day).

You may leave the rigs at Loon Lake, away from the campers though...should not be an issue this year.

The only problem with this is that Loon lake is a long drive from where you get out at tahoe.

Al, I'm pretty sure Robb's resort will let you park there as well. It's just up the road from Ice house.

Vehicle Storage
Robbs Valley Resort now offers vehicle storage! Store your Jeep only 8 miles from Loon Lake! We have propane and air, so you need not worry about getting your rig ready for the next run! You can also park your tow vehicles and trailers here at Robbs Valley Resort in our non-secured storage area.

Vehicle/trailer storage .... $8.00/day ... $100/mo.

As we get closer to these dates, start posting what spares you intend on bringing. There is no need for everyone to bring the same things. If we all bring different things then they can be shared by the ones that need them. You will find that excess weight is going to be you enemy. Every one needs to pack like they are back packing. Freeze some of you drinking water, it will help keep everything cold in the ice chest. 5 day ice chests work really good on this trail.
