I think we should all chime in.

After the passage of S 22 there's still smoke coming from the top of my head.
I like REI's content however I cannot condone REI's blind support of quasi extremist conservation groups that believe the only way to concerve our environment is to lock them away and arrest anyone found exploring them. The fact that REI Would support this kind of group as opposed to a group that supports getting the handicapped outside and get them too the beautiful places so they can use the camping gear they purchased. Is frankly from a business point of view far beyond my understanding.

That was my submission thank you for the link Lady, as you can see I'm not the most well spoken individual. But it get's my point across. However after reading it they may not understand what specific groups I'm referring to.:doh:censor:

I think we need to come up with reasons that support the idea that our recreational needs form a symbiotic relationship with those interested in "muscle sports."

The idea is that if they support OHV travel they support getting people closer to areas that people want to hike, bike, climb, backpack, etc.

If I have to travel 50 miles on foot just to be able to start my 30-mile backpacking trip in a remote area, it puts many places off limits. It becomes more difficult or impossible with the time off we are allowed from work. Only the independently wealthy will be able to recreate in remote areas and it will be hard for REI to maintain a viable business with so few people being able to really enjoy these muscle sports in out of the way places.

The concept needs a lot more polish, but I don't think we should paint REI with a broad brush as "evil."

      Just my 2 cents.

I did not. I asked my friend who works there if they knew anybody who I could speak to directly and summarizing what she said, REI probably wouldn't respond, and doesn't want to take a stand. Making an actual statement might make some of the people who are off-roaders stop shopping there if something is "official".

Sounds like some of my managers at work. If they don't respond they think it will go away.

So, I have my government to thank? It is irritating that's for sure. I was not raised that way and I have a hard time dealing with people like that.

What did you say? I don't think you said that; ergo, it doesn't exist.

President Barack Obama’s newly-named nominee to run the Department of the Interior, REI CEO Sally Jewell, sought and received a waiver from Obamacare requirements for her outdoor clothing and equipment company in 2011.

The Washington Examiner’s Charlie Spiering dug up the revelation Thursday, noting that Obama welcomed Jewell to the White House in 2009 to jointly argue for the passage of Obamacare.

Obama held REI up as a model company.

“And then REI, which has to be fit since they’re a fitness company,” Obama joked during the White House meeting on May 12, 2009, “has been doing work that allows them to provide health care coverage, health insurance, not only to their full-time employees but also their part-time employees. Every single employee is covered, but part of the reason they’re able to do it is because they put a big emphasis on prevention and wellness.”

Two years later, Jewell secured an exemption from the law for REI.

REI received an Obamacare waiver around the same time that nearly 20 percent of the businesses in House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s Northern California district received waivers.
