  • Any Homebrewers?

Looks like ill be ordering a homebrew kit from www.northernbrewer.com. Seems like itd be a fun hobby (just what i need something else to spend money on besides the Jeep) haha.

At the next MJR meet ill be sure to bring a couple gallons along for everyone to try I think one of the first im going to brew is a Cream Ale, Irish Red, or an Oktoberfest.

Just wondering if anyone else brews from home. Lemme know if you guys have any good tips or recipies for me to try out. :thumbs_up:beer::beer:

I used to homebrew in Japan, it was $12- a beer there so we started to homebrew, very under the table, very hush hush. some good stuff that homebrew! but I havent done it since I got back in the states, allways said I would go for the 50gal brew next time, the 5gal set is just for beginners, but it does make 60 12oz beers... so the 50gal should be 600... or around there. more worth the while when you are waiting for the brew to mature. I would happily sample some of that brew, and if you want to share the cost maybe we could get a lil' MJR homebrew co-op going here...

sweet! Sounds kinda scary dealing with the japs though haha. Yeah we just ordered or kit today. Its a 5 gal kit with a keg and CO2 system. We've been talking about going bigger if we decide that we like brewing and are any good at it. Maybe we'll make it big off of beer, now thats a dream. lol

We ordered the Irish Red kit and a nutty brown ale kits too....

cool... I never did the co2 thing, if you bottle the wort with a lil sugar and wait a few weeks, the bubbles follow the second fermentation along with whatever special flavor you add to the bottle at the time, like berries or vanilla or whatever. we would brew a pale ale with a fresh blueberry in the bottle for the second stage, and it would have a nice aftertaste of blue...

I used to home brew back in the early 90's. I would brew 5 gallon batches and store/dispense from 5 gallon stainless soda canisters. I bought a used, full size fridge and removed all of the inside racks and shelves. The fridge would hold 5, 5 gallon containers plus a small CO2 tank. I drilled 3 holes in the side of the fridge and attached 3 bar style tap handles. I could pour any combination of three beers at a time and it only took seconds to switch lines to the other beers. I just found my "brew logs" as I was typing this this. 16 batches brewed from 10-11-94 to 4-11-95. Brown ales (used both Crystal malt and Chocolate malts), IPA Pale ales (heavy hops), a Red ale (roasted barley), and an awesome Christmas ale that I can still remember. I hope that you didn't start something with these memories coming back?????

hahah we could have an MJR beer off with all the homebrewers!

Were planing to do exactly that, were gonna take an old fridge and install tap handles on the door for easy access. I'm really excited to get it started.

Allen, are minors allowed to make beer? Hehe. There's a store on PCH in Oceanside that sells everything to brew. I just don't have the money for it right now.

Put the tap handles on the side so that you don't yank on the lines each time you open the door and then have to stuff the lines back inside to close it. Just an idea. BTDT!
