My YJ has two fuel filtering devices.
One is in the tank which is a total PITA to replace. This is a pre-filter for the pump. Back in the dark ages tanks were made of sheet steel which would rust due to condensation. The pre-filter stopped all the rusty crap from accumulating in the pump. Nowadays with plastic tanks the pre-filter doesn't do much so it can be ignored with little risk.
The other filter is on the frame rail and should be replaced regularly. This keeps crap out of the injectors.
I don't know the exact numbers for stock but the pre-filter is about 70 microns and the in-line about 10.
Keep this in mind if you assult your mechanic as described."your jeep looks so hot!!"

I'll be clamoring around under there today finishing up my work, getting the rear diff fluid and power steering fluid changed. i'll also poke around for the frame-mounted in-line filter and replace it.
i'll save dropping the gas tank for later. thanks for the tips, just trying to cover all bases with my filters and fluids here.03 TJ. It'll go 65mph...can't complain.
