these are a series of pictures i snapped the other night. i am attempting to learn how to use this camera and some of the features. these are all with a canon 10d and sigma lens. there is no flash. i tried a number of shutter speeds to get "the look" i was going for.
here are a few of the ones i like.

the pictures were taken in "raw" format, and saved as tiff. then for the web, they were converted to jpeg. in the conversion, some of the brightness was lost, but i think they still look pretty cool.

these are all in shoreline village, and the boat is the queen
enjoy.... feel free to comment. i can take the criticism

Wow those are awesome Erik! Not sure why there is 2 of the lighthouse. I am not a profession photographer but I do play one on website forums....

I honestly do not have anything to bad to say about them, I like them just the way they are.

thanks for the comments. there are 2 of the light house just because of the different shutter speed/light.
i am very new at this slow shutter speed shooting, and have a lot to learn.
some of these are as slow as 10 second shutter speed.
it was like 11:00 pm, and very dark when i took these.

          thank you, sweety..
you are welcome to shoot it next time we get together.
there is a lot to this thing.
it isnt like a regular camera whre you just point and shoot. it is worth the time though for the pics you get out of it.

i am having fun with it.

          you can too

Actually, remind me to bring my iBook next time, I can show you how to get back some of that lost brightness in Photoshop.

Great job Erik. Those look really good! I especially like that "parkers" pic :thumbs_up

My camera has a mode where it opens the shutter for a while to get the background, then fires the flash to get the foreground that might be too dark. You can get some very creative shots with that mode at night ... not sure if you have had any chance to experiemnt with that yet but the results can be very cool!

For example you can take a picture of someone in very dark conditions while getting the moon, clouds, and sky in the background!

I assume you were using a tripod (or you have one hell of a steady hand)....are you using a remote for the shutter? It looks like you have a touch of camara shake.....If you don't have a remote, try setting the timer, that way you won't induce any shake when you release the shutter (assuming you were releasing the shutter by hand).

The 10D is a nice rig....I looked at them before I bought my Drebel (also 6.3mp), but didn't like the cost, considering how I use the camara ("weekend warrior" stuff).

i'd argue that he's using a remote or delay, and the motion blur is due to the fact that the boats, etc. are on the water, which moves but i don't know fer sher

great pics erik... my lil A60 sucks total ass when it comes to long exposure shots point & shoot, it's a little better

wow, thanks for all the great comments.
as for the remote/timer.. it is true. i did just push the button by hand. the timer is a great idea. i was trying to be really careful, but i guess you caught me
i will be looking into remotes, and other cool junk.
                            thanks for the tips!

the reason i went with the 10d over the rebel was the seals, and construction. i figured i'd be subjecting it to the rigors of off roading, and dust. thought it might hold up a bit better.
