Dirt Bikes . . . who's got em?

Fo-sho. I usually don't even look at the bikes till close to haloween... But we're totaly noob friendly and will get your skills up fast.

One of the rules I have (I'm a bitchen trail boss if I do say so myself) NO ONE gets left behind.

You ride at your own pace, no one pushes you. we ride fastest to slowest so that's motivation to improve, but when we turn from one trail to another EVERYONE stops till the last bike gets there. Last guy will have a moment to say anything he needs (bikes not acting right, tired, can't continue for whatever reason) and we put an experianced rider dead last as a tail gunner incase anyone spills. Usually the tail gunner will be hung over and won't wanna jam anyhow. LOL

We'll also have a destination set and get there and play. We'll have a spot where riders can sit and rest, while the kids or "red bull riders" can play around and the rest can watch, drink water, let bikes cool down, etc.

I'm trying to get some of these "rules" imbedded in the heads of the guys I go jeeping with... like the 'wait at the turn' rule.

I'll hit you up when the season gets here. In the mean time, ride your local trails, ride your own pace and be safe. Learn your bike and the mechanics of it. It will help when you get out on the 'big boy rides'

Thanks Dirt . . . hope to get out with you soon! Got lucky on Friday with some cloud cover and even rain up in Gorman which kept the temps down in the 80's . . . had to pass up on venturing out yesterday as it was just too damn hot. I really need some practice, but having a heat stroke might take the fun out of it. Thinking I'm going to opt for another little run around the neighborhood today to break the bike in some more and will wait for a cooler day or get a really early start before hitting the dirt again. I want to get out and run around the Rowher/Texas Cyn/Drinkwater Flats area . . . my buddy that I went to Gorman with just picked his 2 stroke up from the shop so hopefully he'll be itching to take it out and I can tag along with him and get some more practice.

a few rules to live by,

Just like jeeping, Never ride off road alone. - You know how easy it is to get in a bad situation in a jeep? It's even easier to wad up and break your bike or yourself when trail riding. bring a buddy with you... always.

Get a camelbak hydro system. Jeeping is cool and ya get thirsty, but for the most part it's not physicaly demanding. Riding is one of the most demanding sports on the planet, and the more tired you get, the more your chances of getting a face full of trail mix.

Bring tools. Check out the Thumpertalk forum, (http://www.thumpertalk.com/) there are tons of guys on there, they can tell you anything and everything you need to know about your bike, riding, and what to bring with you on hte trail. Too much will slow you down and wear you out, but not enough, you may end up walking home.

Nice bike Jeff. Not sure of your plans but if I may suggest two things. Get a skid plate. The sides of the engine are pretty vulnerable. I had this one. Very stout.

Also the radiators on the DRZ’s could use some extra protection. One good side impact can break the mounts. Trust me. I know.

Ordered a skid plate and case savers from Thumpertalk before I even brought the bike home

Will be ordering radiator protection in the next week or so - any recommendations?

I got the Unabiker ones. They actually mount to the frame and provide full protection. Unlike the others that only protect the fins.

I'm going to hunt down a locksmith close to work (LAX), want to get a spare key or two made. Bike only came with one

Ordered the "usual necessities" on Friday. Skid plate,case guards, handlebars, handlebar risers, etc. Will be ordering the footpeg bracket today, as well as an Edge tail light assembly.

Did you check out the Baja Desigh tail light assembly? It fits the DRZ with some minor mods.

The Edge is a similar tail light, but the lower plate portion is a lot smaller than that.
