I'm also getting back into CW. I want to get good enough to make some contacts during Field Day. 75 DX's....that is excellent. When I was in 7th grade, in English class, we had a project to make a book. My buddy (fellow ham at the time) did a book on Ham Radio. One of my comments in the book is, "I'm tired of talking to Japan...they're so easy to contact!" However; with our latest propagation, I haven't heard a Japanese station in a while!

im still debating what setup to run. the two radios im looking at are the Kenwood TMV71A and the Yeasu ft-2900/2800. used radios are fetching so much i think im going to buy new. the comet antennas are diffidently what i want but i havnt figured out which one yet. they have some nice stuff but the price is steep on the top models

Congratulations Troy. It won't long before you have your ham ticket.

On antennas, remember the the higher the gain, the better it will perform.

Just noticed you were interested in the TM-V71A. I purchased that radio and like it. I got around to posting a follow up in a thread I started a while ago asking about it:

i appreciate your follow up. the kenwood certainly gets good reviews even a few from 8800 owners. the price st up there but i see it can sell for ridiculous amounts used. glad to hear you found it for a good deal
