Home Made Disconnects for a TJ

Ive had a few people ask me for these pics...so here ya are...

The parts can be bought at Home Depot for about $5...
(2) 2 1/2" long, 7/16" pins with holes
(2) heavy duty cotter pins (get spares)
(4) washers

I'm thinking I like these as much as store bought disconnects...

anyway...here it is:

I tuck my arms up in that pocket, though I don't know if all TJ years have it...they stay up there with no problem...I know that the Rubicons cant get them in there...

Actually, I came up with a fix for that problem. I was jealous, and I wanted my links up in the pocket too.

I took a 12" crecent wrench and bent the offending piece of sheet metal out of the way so the sway bar can be pushed up another inch, which allows the link end to get into the "pocket".

Cool Disco's, I made a disconnect for YJ track bars using those pins. But then again, what YJ needs track bars. I use the pins on my sway-bar disco, good ol pry off sway bar technique.

Fyi, this is only good for about 2-3" of spring lift. More than that and the angle of the sway bar becomes to much for it to operate properly connected. just my $.02.

Very Nice Tammy I will say that these work just as well as the $120 disco's. I've seen um in action, very cool mod.

I believe this will only work on TJ's. You might want to check that out before you buy all the parts.

I did the same thing for my YJ since I can't use my old jks disco anymore because my coil spring conversion.

Im bringing this thread back to LIFE because i want to know if this will work on an XJ with 2 inches of lift?

Its possible that it can work for an XJ . . . you just need to figure out how. The pin is the same, but XJ sway bar links dont have the little swivel deal where they connect to the sway bar. They just have a rubber bushing. You can probably use the pin and figure out a way to swing the whole mess up and out of the way.

well it works it is just HARD to get the sway bar re-aligned, but it could be for 2 reasons; 1:my car isnt on level ground and 2: the backend is jacked up with the axle drooping

I think if it was flat it would work tho, ill have to find out later when im sittin level.

yeah, it can be tough to do. i hate that part

In other words...

Its normal to have problems getting the swaybar hooked back up if youre not on level ground.
