  • The saga cont...

Got more done, but it's coming in spurts. Too much to do.

    More of the roll cage

The speakers and vents will fit back in the dash with little fuss. That really suprised me. I'm looking at a couple of options for mounting the rear shocks. I'll trim the tabs to shape if I go with this set up

Let's see... 10 pounds of :poop: in a 1 pound bag... I have some serious work ahead here.
    Chuck,
whatcha doing this week after work???

The carnage keeps piling up, and my parque floor just keeps getting trashed. Different kind of game room here now!

      • Even on my little yellow TJ just pushing the axle about 1.5" forward turned into a major battle for clearance.
Might as well lob that trackbar mount of the frame since it will hit the axle under full compression. After some surgery it still barely rubs. I have decided that after a bunch of runs and some fun hammer time I can leave it alone and call it good, You want more stretch so might as well clean house and cut that thing of

          Art,
You see the piles of :poop: I cut off already, and I'm not even half way there yet. All that :poop: is coming off the frame up front. I was thinking, instead of a tri-link, how bout a tri-cycle? Three wheels instead of four? It would sure make fitting the front easier... Hell, even mount a set of ape hangers on the steering column...

                • I've been looking at different mounting schemes for the rear shocks. Straight tabs, plates, etc. But I really like this arrangement.

I'll drill through both tubes and sleeve them, then run a 5/8 bolt all the way through. The sleeves will trap the Swivel joint to keep it secure. And it looks cool too... at least to me.

Well I have more pics but Flikr is sucking right now so...

                      The set up

The cross bar behind the seat will have to be curved to fit the seats. The bar that is there now goes at the top of th window; I just needed a reference for the seats.

                      More tomorrow...

                          • FYI you want the bar for your seat belts to be at least sholder height to 1 inch above. If you were to mount them like that you will compress your spine are break your back in a crash are hard roll over. Take a look at where your sholder belt is mounted stock, there is a very good reason for it up so high. To many people mount them wrong and just don't understand how they work.

                              • I know it was a temp. Just wanted to make sure you were aware of the placement. On our race trucks we weld the bar in at the spot you have it, then we bend up 2 bars behind the seats for the belts like you did for your rear shocks.
