(I should add some say the D44 is actually 8.75")
If this is where you say a 8.8 is stronger. Its not just the size of the ring gear that means more then conversation.
The pinion on a D44RS (JKD44 front) is larger then a 8.8R.
The pinion bearings on a D44RS are larger.
D44RS Carrier is much stronger then a 8.8R.
Locker if comparing say a ARB in both is likely the same or not needed to be considered.
Ring Gear bolts in the D44RS are 1/2", in the F8.8 they are 7/16.
