So it's came the time in my life to start fixing up my '97 TJ. I get my learners a month from today, and want to have it on the road before I get my license (Feb. 09...would be Jan. but I have to pass the driving class at school first).
I've put about 300 miles on it driving around my Uncle's farm, I've gotten fairly good at driving too (before I had this I had only driven an automatic).
So I have a '97 TJ with a 6cyl., 197k, manual, 4.0 L, etc. (theres probably a lot I could say here, but I don't know half of it).
I'm definitely going to have to buy a new top, the windows that are on it now are the originals and the top is about 5 years old, give or take. I'd get a hard top, but that just costs too much IMO, and I'd have it off most of the time anyway. There was a guy in here on one of the forums with a TJ hardtop for $700, but it's red and my jeep is blue. I've also considered a bikini top with the wind breaker and the cover for the back seat area, but I'd probably have more than two people in the Jeep at times.
I'd like to get doors with the roll up windows because back when you could actually zip the current ones down (they're hot glued up now, zipper messed up), I didn't really like the way it felt. But that's quite an extra bit of cash, so I'm looking for some used ones.
For tires I'm planning on getting some 33x10.50 (maybe 11.50) BFG ATs, because I won't be doing enough four wheeling for MTs, and I think I'll be driving a lot and figure MTs tread will wear down much faster.
My Grandparent's just bought a Hyundai and haven't been driving their '97 Jeep Cherokee Laredo as much so I'm going to see if they'll swap motors with me, they have 135k on theirs and I figure it'll make mine last longer, but will it be worth the effort?
Last thing is a CB, I don't know how often I'd use it, but I've always wanted one, and if I'm driving a lot it'll be something to pass the time with. Any suggestions on what brand/kind? I don't really know anything about them.
Just looking for some input, maybe links to used things if you have them, etc.
