  • Day run near San Diego

    I would to see if anyone has run Sidwinder or Broncos peak down here in San Diego. From the trail book I have, it seems to be the closest trail near my place. I really am not looking for anything crazy but really want to just get out there, also am desperate to test out my new transfer case! If anyone wants to go please let me know. I have never been to these trails and im up for an adventure but would like to go with more vehicles. If anyone has been on the trails I have mentioned please let me know how it is, or if anyone knows any other close moderate trails post up!

    like i said im desperate to test out my T-case. I can only go on friday do to that thing we call "work"

    let me know thanks!!

    Aren't those trails in the Cleveland National Forest down south of I-8 about 45 mi. east of SD? I ran a few of the hard trails there a couple of years ago, some of them get really, really tight. I've got some deep scratches on my hood from the branches, you could easily destroy a soft top where I went. Also, be warned that it can get really hot out there at times, take lots of water. I'll see if I can find out which trails I ran for you.

      I believe the trai I ran out there was Sidewinder. Did it bone stock in my TJ and my buddy did it in a stock TRD Taco. No problems. We didn't have the stones to try Bronco with stockers and no straps/winches...

      BTW- my avatar is a pic from Corral Canyon...Check with justruns.com to see if CC is open. I seem to remember parts are still closed but some is open...?

      I'd be up for going out there. Gotta work the 28th. I am off Friday the 27th, though.

              By the way (and slightly off topic), I hear that Lawrence Welk (just north of SD on I-15) has been shut down. Apparently law enforcement is impounding any vehicles they catch up there. Just in case you think about heading that way instead.

                Bronco Peak is rated a 4 1/2 out of a 5.

                    Unfortunately I can't go. Looking back at my notes, we did do Sidewinder. Two of us, both new to the trail, both in Rubicons, mine lifted 4" the other was stock. I spent most of my day dragging him over rocks. You'll want to go with someone who has a rig similar to yours. We ran it the first time using Charles A Wells' "Guide to California Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails" which did a great job guiding us. Hope you have fun.

                      I think i am ok if i get hung up i dont mind a little excitment with a high lift or my newer winch. From the pics I saw there were trees around, are they burned? or can they be used as a winch point if neccessary? I think ill go up and explore a little I hav spairs and stuff so i should be ok (knock on wood) just wont try andything dangerous.

                        When are you thinking about going? I haven't gone offroad since lifting 2.5 inches and putting on the 33's and discos. Kinda like to try it out on something that I ran stock so I could compare.

                          I would love to go. Both of those trails are great fun. Unfortunately I have to do that "work" thing.
