  • AZ/Florence Junction 8-11 Dec (lots of pics)

    1 flopped xj
2 front fenders (cj and my tj)
    1 broken windshield (yj)
1 broken cross member (xj that flopped)
1 broken axle shaft (cj--long side front)
1 differential drain plug ripped out (sammi)
countless minor encounters between sheet metal and rocks.
2.5 hours to get through the first obstical.

Q: Why the HELL did I get out of bed this morning?

A: Because I love this stuff!

As we all know, pics never do any of this stuff justice. Almost all of the major damage was done on the first obstacle, and about 50% of the time on the trail was there as well. I won't be doing this trail again with my TJ...at least not until I decide to put about another 3" of air between the belly pan and the ground. This proved to be the biggest issue of the day (for me). I simply didn't have enough ground clearance....although I didn't really slow the group down much. Some of the obstacles took time no matter who was on it......

    Couple more here

It was a good run.....it just took more time than it should have (about 5 hours for 8--?--jeeps to go one mile).

Now I have to get under mind and figure out what I bent.....I picked up a new *shake* between 50 and 55 mph. As in, only from 50 to 55....feels like the beginning of deathwobble, but goes away above 55 or below 50. I have a week long baja trip at the end of the month.....so I've gotta get that straitened out.

Sarah, the trail is outside of Florence, AZ....s/e of Phoenix.

Blackzzr, I don't think we are going much farther south than BoLA. A good portion of our time will be spent on the water (sea kayaking).

Yes, there are quite a few trails off of Table Mesa road. I have not heard of any "easy" trails up there, but they do have a few that are rumored to be *kinda* difficult. Here is the easy part of Asylum....

actually, there are a number of trails up there that would be of interest to you SoCal folks. Some would require a trailer so you can get your junk home (I hear that Matrix is one of those trails who's entry fee is a pair of 35 spline 60's and 38"+ tires), and others would be difficult enough to provide you with a challenge and still let you drive your jeep home. Upper and lower terminator, raw deal, predator....a few others escape my mind right now. But definately enough trails to fill up a 4 day weekend if you hit them before it gets hot.

Chuck Wells' AZ trail guide lists around 15 in the Prescott/Sedona/Lake Pleasant area.

Goodtimes, It was nice sharing a trail with you. Considering how well your Jeep did on 32's you must be one hell of a good driver!

Heres a good pic I got of you:

And the toll collector at the entrance to H2H:
