The shots aren't as clear as I would like - they have the crowd barriers so far away from the track now - shooting at 100ft to 100 yards at speeding vehicles. Shutter speeds were 1000 to 1200th sec. so they're usable.

Wow, that Nikon has a 60x zoom (24mm to 1440mm equivalent). Hard too believe ANYTHING would be too far away. Sounds like you need a tripod or monopod for stability.
