  • Trail Run: King of the Hammers - JV February 9-12

Well, I know it is still a ways out but I am already planning for KOH. The misses is just as stoked as I am for it and I turned in my vacation request today. From what I can find online it looks like the finals will be Friday 2/10. I'm planning to leave Chandler on Thursday morning headed for a camp site somewhere near Chicken Rock (maybe the formation opposite the entrance of it). I'm hopping to do a little wheeling on Thursday, then watch the event Friday, maybe a night run, then hit something again on Saturday. The misses is wanting to make a trip up into Big Bear as well so maybe a Saturday snow run up Jacoby to 3N16 to Holcomb (if those two connect?) would be good.

    Thoughts? Complaints? Suggestions?

    Chris,

Jacoby Canyon does hit 3N16 at Lucky Baldwin Mine. That is a fun snow run and is very awesome when the snow melt starts filling the creek.

For information on and a full schedule of the 2012 King of the Hammers go to ultra4racing.com.

The event is being expanded greatly in 2012. It now runs a full 9 days from Feb. 3 to Feb. 11, with 5 days of racing thrills.

There will be a gate again this year. $20.00 per person age 14 and over, kids 5 - 13 $10.00, kids under 5 are free. Fee is the same whether you come for a day or for the full event. Pay once get a wristband and go in and out. Sooooooo, the earlier you arrive, the less it costs per day. LOL

Gate volunteers are being sought, perks are commiserative.

Contact me if you're interested or have any questions. Roger, this means you! wink wink

I have also been counting down the days since I left last year. This year my mom is just as excited as I am. Were renting a motorhome and plan to be out there for the week. Pretty damn excited, I think more so for the stock and stock mod guys the weekend prior to the Big Friday.

Some info about the big race has been posted in pirate. 165 miles, two laps (not the same) 1 main pit, 2 remote. LCQ is 3 miles.

Glad to hear so many folks are coming to this! I have yet to attend but from what I can see this event will do wonders for our community, and our technology.

Do you know what the JK Experience is on the last day? I can't find any info on it anywhere. Is it associated with the one the Mel Wade from Offroad EVO puts on?

I'll be there for the week of the race. I have also volunteered to help for a number of days the week before the race. I am also working a pit for my On the Rocks club friends Richie and Kristen Carter in the Race Prep buggy. They are team 4474. As always, this should be a great event.

I will be there Thursday the 2nd and setting up for our Stock class race on sunday the 5th. then home on the 5th late or 6th early. Leaving the trailer out there. Returning on the 9th (thurs) about 7pm and staying till sat morning and towing everything back home then.

We are Starting 12th in the Every Man Challange and should have a very capible rig.

If you are going to have a motorhome or trailer out there for very long, you can go to the Ultra4 website and pre buy a dump package that is good for three different days and that way you know your good on black/gray water...

Looks like I'm switching schedules at work... Man I feel like a ping pong ball. I may be out the weekend prior now, rather than when I initially stated. Should be a great time no matter what, not to mention I think the misses got me Jeep parts for Christmas

Where do they set up the gates? Near the tent area or at the hwy.

Last year they set up the gates maybe half way between the hwy and the drylake. I can tell you that people that were seen in the area that bypassed the gate and didnt have wristbands were harassed by the other spectators. Not saying that is why you were asking, but I do know a lot of people that were planning on it.
