  • Trail Report: Friday Holcomb run

First and foremost thanks to all the AAT Volunteers, the trail is in awesome shape.

I started my first hollcomb run with a unexpected vehicle inspection by CHP on the side of HWY 18. In all honesty he could have dinged me for all kinds of stuff but gave a fix it ticket for no mudflaps and half a dozen verbal warnings. It wasn't the greatest start of the day fourtantly it did not turn into a harbinger of things to come. I meet Roger and Xthread in Fawnskin. We started for the trail head and immediately started hearing CB traffic from the Sand Diego 4 Wheelers who had a club run behind us. We didn't slow down and take pictures much but it sure was a fun day with almost no issues except my jeep wanted to run hot all day I didn't boil over but I did lose most of the water in my overflow by the end of the day. Here are a few pics from Holcomb and Gold Mountain.

Thanks Xthread & Hollywood32. I'm so glad you guys were able to get away today. It was a great day! After we exited 3N93 at the west end we headed up 3N16 to 3N97 to 3N14 to 3N08, the "other" Holcomb creek trail ending back on 3N16. From there I headed on home but John & Thomas took Gold Mtn trail before heading home.

If today was any indacation, the trail will be crowded on the weekends.

I got that one on the way to vegas. Ridiculous. They'd rather have them break off on the off-road trails and litter the forest?

You make them easily removable. so they get stored on the trail

Fix a ticket, I think it's 250 if you don't and 50 bucks to get it signed off by the CHP. The days of getting fix a tickets signed off for free are long gone

No person shall operate any motor vehicle having three or more wheels, any trailer, or semitrailer," states California Vehicle Code Section 27600, "unless equipped with fenders, covers, or devices, including flaps or splash aprons, or unless the body of the vehicle or attachments thereto afford adequate protection to effectively minimize the spray or splash of water or mud to the rear of the vehicle and all such equipment or such body or attachments thereto shall be at least as wide as the tire tread." The law became effective Nov. 23, 1970.

Sound like to me most of us are breaking the law if our tires are sticking out beyond the fenders. $50 some mud flaps and some stock sized tires should fix the issue.

There not only is a width portion but also how much of the tire height wise is covered. No need to get stock tires. The easiest answer is mud flap with two clips on it. Once at the trail head unclip and store then for the road trip there and back have them on.

These and create own brackets or clips.

Or these if you dont have the time/ tools/ motivation to design mounts.

They got me for not having the registration for my Bantam trailer. He also commented on my missing front plate and windows.
