Could a TJ on 33's without lockers make it using bypasses?

There aren't any bypasses to most of the extreme obstacles on both trails. I think with open diffs you would have a very rough run. I recomend at least one locker.

Lockers are for sure recommended but there was a full size blazer on 31's with open diff's that made it through with a lot of work so if he can do it you should be able to make it. Just have someone in front of you with a tow strap or if you have a winch on your rig all should be OK. It is really just picking the right lines and hoping that you do not slip off of it. The rocks are still settling and there is still mud so you will have to work for it...

Damage is always a possibility. It really is just a matter of what you are willing to do and or fix.

Good Luck!

Damn . . . I'm going to have to get out there . . . sounds like the trail might have changed quite a bit from last year. JB is one of my favorite trails . . . can't wait to get out there again.
That which does not kill me postpones the inevitable.

The comment from Rubikat is exactly correct. Many of the rocks are not settled in yet, and because of that it's easy to slip into a hole. That in turn causes people to get stuck and they end up moving the rocks around even more. Eventually the lines will settle in, but for now expect guys with small tires and open diffs to have a hard time. You may end up with quite a wait if there's a lot of people there. If you've got lockers and 33's or bigger tires, it's not difficult at all, just a little different then it was. Not a big deal. Have fun.

So your saying that if I don't want to be considered a sorry wheeler that I'll now have to have a set of 31s, and a set of open axles to swap into my rig to run JB? That kind of thing can get expensive! Hell, if I take that line of thinking a little further, I'd have to have all kinds of different gear to run each different trail. Hmmm, I think I'll just be a sorry wheeler...

LOL, now that is funny coming from you
no that is not what I am saying, what I meant was if you think a guy on 31s needs to not take that trail, then you are using your equipment to compensate for your lack of wheeling skills, that trail can easily be taken on 31s, have done it a lot. I only went over to 33s on my TJ, never ran bigger than 31s on any of my CJs before that and took the Bull plenty of times.

No Jeff, I have moved on to mind control. Point and wish it so and the shutter just clicks. LOL!!!

Yes, with a couple other rigs, a willingness for body damage, and patience.
An XJ will always cost you less then any girl ever will, and you will always know when the spark is gone.

a Tj on 33s will easily do either of those trails with no problem and no body damage unless the guys spotting are no good at picking lines, DS and JB are not as fierce as guys claim them to be, I have taken my FJ Cruiser over them both with 32s and no damage. A Jeep on 31s can do it with no damage. Anyone stating you need bigger that 31s for either trail does not know how to wheel. Sheesh we have taken an H2 over the bull and many over DS, and I do not want to count how many H3s have made both with no body damage. It is just a matter of learning to pick the correct line, staying on trail which is much safer than going off trail, and trusting your equipment. I have done JB many times alone on 33s and 31s. The locker issue may require a pull or push in a place or two, but it will be fine if you are not afraid to accept a little help.We took a H3 over it that lost it's traction control a few years back in the snow. If they are willing to take you over these trails, go for it, you will have a blast and will be adding a locker real soon.
