This is a good point Steve, others need to be considered when putting a run together.

I've taken several groups across all of the BB trails and the Johnson Valley trails and found that many stockish and lightly equipped vehicles have been damaged quite extensively. Then you never see the person again after they've torn up their vehicle, or by taking a stock vehicle it slows the group down and some get impatient.

So when I set requirements for vehicles I try to put it at a place where there won't be vehicle damage or passenger danger. You would be surprised what can happen on a black diamond or even a moderate trail.

Dishpan & JB are both rated 4 - 4+ and roll overs occur regularly on Dispan. Can I get my stockish and open diff'd vehicle through DP or JB??.....absolutly, but not everyone can.

I've also seen many foolish and hazardous spotters and trail leaders nearly kill people by taking inexperianced drivers and inproperly equipped vehicles on trails not suited for them, and end up rolling them down the side of the mountain. I'm sure you've seen the "many" recent roll-over videos circulating around.

So I set requirements that will fit the trail.

Yea I know! I been working on getting this jeep dialed in for a long time. Lots of new stuff and I just want it right before I go out again. I am probably paranoid because the last 2 time I went out I broke. 1st was the axle and second was the steering gear leaking all the fluid out. I have AAA also but not sure if they would get you off the trail. 4x4 tow truck would be a good idea though.

Mike,

I hope you guys have a great time today. Mine will be a little more of a scenic thing. I want to run John Bull again and also Gold Mountain soon. No Dishpan for me.

Beau: AAA won't get you off the trail and it costs $150 cash to set you back on all fours if you are on the pavement. I know the second part first hand!

Art, for you, 100 spoke dayton 13's might be more appropriate

With 30 foot tires I bet it could make it over anything! Haha j/k with ya.

I've never done JB or Dishpan in my jeep, but I've riden along a few times in others' jeeps. I'm open and on 33s but I'd be more worried about the fact that I'm not protected (no skids or rocker guards.) Maybe later this summer after I put some more money into the pit..

Thanks Mitch & Art, we did have a great run in the beautiful SBNF. I think I've grown fond of my 35's though Art - but I do think I'll start to carry a straw hat & recliner, might as well go first class all the way.

We started out with 6 vehicles and ended up with 7. We picked up a cute young couple in a nice JK on White Mt trail and they followed us on over to the JB. Now they want to do a run to Moab, Rubicon, JV, Dusy etc, etc.

Mitch I found a new mine for ya. The Greenhorn. It overlooks the desert from 8,000. It's right dead center of the...... JB trail though. There has been lots of placer type mining up there in the past.

Mike,

Thanks for the info. I have run John Bull before with Mr Green and Dirtman. Fun little trail. I didn't have time explore on foot, but noticed alot of things I'd like to check out next time. Can't find any reference to a mine there, just prospects and claims. Email any other pictures you have. Glad you all had fun. We did the easy tour yesterday.

Here's a video of a buddy I took through DP & JB ( 2 years ago) on 31's & rear limited slip only.
no problems!

2 years ago is was considerably easier to get through John Bull, the way we goes 4x4 club has done a pretty good job on the trail in the last year. Definitely more fun these days.

Don and crew definately do a fantastic job. Of course, the guy writing the Maintenance Plan is a real insensitive jerk - doesn't care about folks on 31's losing a little paint

Well Jeff where would the fun in it be, if it was just a flat road that any ole low rider could drive
