In the Calaveras Ranger District, there are a number of trails along Hwy 4 between Black Spring and Ebbetts Pass. In the Mi-Wuk Ranger District, there are a number of trails along Hwy 108 around Dodge Ridge. In the Summit Ranger District there is the Niagra Rim trail and several others near Sonora Pass. The Groveland Ranger District only lists one 4x4 trail, but it looked pretty interesting; it starts near Coulterville on Hwy 49 and goes down to and fords the north fork of the Merced River and reaches Hwy 140 at Briceburg. I've never run any of these trails, so I can't say how easy or difficult they are. It would be great if you could scout them out and give us some trail reports.

Anybody gonna be up in this area the weekend after the 4th of July??? I'd love to run some of these trails, but am totally unfamiliar with the area and a bit hesitant to head out alone.

As of right now planned opening for Dusy and Swamp is between the 2nd and 4th of July... all the other trails except Spanish are allready open!

We will have a large group camped near dinkey creek running all of the trails in the area between July 2nd and July 6th! Have fun!

I live near Oakdale. The Niagra Rim Trail is our club trail. On Sat 28 our club, 4x4 in Motion, along with Mud Sweat and Gears, a club from Sonora are going to the trail for a chariry run. The event is called Kids on the rocks and it is a trip for mentally challenged kids and adults. I am probably not going to be able to go but if you want to attend PM me and I can get you the info.

I'll be up in Oakdale thru Sun 7/6 but probably not arriving til Tue or Wed. I was planning on checking out Dodge Ridge, Eagle Peak, and hopefully Niagra Rim, but based on the reports I've seen, it wouldn't be smart to run Niagra Rim alone especially not knowing the area. Anybody in your group running any of trails right around, but not on, the 4th?

We just ran Mirror over the weekend. It was great. The rock section was tough as ever and the mosquito's are out in force.

I don't think so. Our annual Poker Run is the next weekend and I am on vacation that week out of town. The niagra yrail is not that bad. If you can handle mild to moderate rocks then you would be fine. We have gotten many stock rigs through our trail. The hardest part is the start of the trail. the rest is just proper tire placement. Also the weekend of the 4th thhere will be many people on the trail and most are very friendly and helpful.

If you hear of anyone heading out there that wouldn't mind a tag along, let me know!

I'm leaving for Oakdale today and would be open to wheelin' Thur, Sat, or Sun. Would love to check out Niagra Rim if I can tag along with folks that know the area . . . otherwise will probably just stick to the moderate trails in the area. I'll be sure to check out MJR when I get up there so PM me if you're in that area and up for some wheelin'

Turbo and I ventured out yesterday and ended up checking out the Eagle Peak Trail up by Pinecrest. Wells has it listed as a moderate trail, but it was one of the easiest trails I've been on. The trail was not only scenic, but being up around 8000-9500 feet, it was nice and cool. I tried to find Dodge Ridge, but ended up on the wrong trail and ran out of time. Here are a few pics:

I'd still like to get out and check out Niagra Rim which is supposed to be the most difficult trail in the area. I'm tempted to make a run up there again tomorrow, but am a bit hesitant not knowing the area, etc . . . Anybody heading up there Sat or Sun???
