I will be there with 2 other rigs on the 17th. All Jeep projects will be done by then and no last minute surprises.

Paul,

It looks like some are planning for a Rattlesnake Canyon run. I know Mitch is going, and I'm planning on it if I can fix my oil leak by then.

If no one else wants to do it, I could take the trail boss job. I know the area very well.

I am down for either trip. Let me find out how many people are going from my side. Rattlesnake sounds good, and Roger can be trail boss. What time, and what day?

Saturday, May 17th seems to be the popular choice. I am assuming meeting in Lucerne valley around 9-9:30ish?

Placing Rattlesnake on the Calendar

I'm going to take the liberty of placing this on the calendar. This way we can get organized. If you are planning on going, or "maybe going" please check in on the calendar.

Those of you driving a long way, feel free to PM me for my cell number. That way you can let us know if you are running late due to mech problems or traffic. Oversleeping is not a valid reason for being late!

Paulhead,

I know you like tougher challenges and so on the calendar event I mentioned that at the top of the canyon we could split the group if some want to do Heart Break Ridge. You in?

Paul, I know about where it is, but I've never run it either. I think Maxx7 has. Maybe if he checks in he can shed some light on it's location. I hope he goes with us.

BTW, I just did a Google Earth search for Hearbreak Ridge but all it showed was heartbreak Ridge Roadless area. This is near where the trail is but I don't think we want to be going in a roadless area!

Anyone have any information on Heartbreak Ridge trail? Please chime in.

If I can get a hall pass, I'll go. If not, here's the info for Heartbreak from Well's book:

Heartbreak Ridge

Difficulty: Difficult
Distance: 16.4 miles, 3 to 4 hours
Location: Head SE from Big Bear Lake on HWY 38, turn East (left) on FS 2N01 near mile marker 41.
LAT NORTH 34 12 26.7
LONG WEST 116 44 13.3

But didn't I read somewhere that Heartbreak (also know as Pontiac I think) has been closed by the FS?

I believe you are correct. I asked this a while back, and somebody mentioned it was closed.

Please Note: Start Time Change!!!

PLEASE NOTE THE START TIME CHANGE!!

NEW MEETING TIME: 8:00 AM

After confering with Mitch(Great88)we decided that due to the length of the run, the hot weather, and that it'll take almost an hour from the time we leave the meeting point to get to the beginning of the trail and air down etc. Nine AM is just too late to start. Now I know this puts a burden on those coming from LA & the OC but believe us, it will be worth getting up an hour earlier. Don't forget to go to the calendar and sign up!

I'll call the Discovery Center today and verify whether Heartbreak Ridge (2N61Y) is open or closed. Each time we went to Rattlesnake / Heartbreak Ridge last year we thought it was closed and then found it open. I've heard that it does close if heavy snows have fallen. The trail for 2N61Y is just to the west of the top of Rattlesnake Canyon off 2N02.
