  • Easter Jeep Safari Moab 2008

Well, It took me 4 years to get to Moab, but it was worth the wait, the drive, the $$$$, everything. If you love Jeeping, you HAVE to get to Moab once before you die. I'm still reeling from the four days we (Andrew and Shari, Stuart, and I) spent there. We ran four pre-chosen trails: Sunday was Gold Spike, a very long, very scenic trail that wound up being the easiest of the four trails. Monday was Pritchett Canyon, arguably the most difficult of the Moab trails, and for certain the most fun of the trails we ran. Tuesday we ran Hell's Revenge; this trail has the famous Hell's Gate obstacle that everyone sees the guy rolling ass over teakettle on at YouTube. Stuart and I got squirrely at the top kicker, but made it up with some awsome spotting by a guy named Bud. Really nice guy. It also runs right along the Lion's Back, which I'm told is problaby closed for good. Too bad, it's pretty scary looking and I really wanted to drive it. Wednesday was the really crazy Moab Rim trail. Off camber on the edge of a 1000 ft. cliff (that's a guess, but it looks ten times higher than that), with some really neat and technical steps on the way up that made alot of passengers decide to take the hike up instead of riding. For us that had to drive, it was freaking awsome!
We left Moab on Thursday morning, missing the huge vendor show and the mad influx of Jeeps coming in for the Easter weekend festivities. I don't regret it at all; We all split up and went our separte ways; I went South to find great shots for the old camera. I hit Arches Natl Monument which is just North of Moab a few miles, The goosenecks, two different Anasazi Indian dwelling sites, Natural Bridges Natl Monument, Canyonlands Natl Park, went down the Yopi Dugway, an INSANE highway that drops down the side of a 7000' escarpment into the Valley of the Gods. From there I went to Monument Valley, and on to the Grand Canyon, where I'm at today. I took a hike down into the canyon; I'm beat and can't wait to get home. Here are pics, starting with a video of the snow storm we hit going across the pass on I 70 to Moab on Saturday evening.

The CJ's/YJ's were unloading all day on this obstacle, and that made for great pics

I did not see diesel Jeeps, but saw some really nice diesel broncos and a 6.1 hemi Jeep. Even saw a hemi Jeep flip over in one of the bowls and come out with just a little scuff on fender.

Kurt, How did you miss this one. I think the snow in the background makes for a perfect backdrop.

It wasn't just Kurt, Stuart also got a strange look in his eyes when we crossed the border into Utah. BTW, if you need WD-40 don't ask Stuart, it's not worth it.

And whats that guy in the black shirt doing?
