      • I am sorry to post this in this thread, but some of you may have missed the one just below regarding the Johnson Valley OHV/29 Palms Marine Corps expansion plan.

        http://www.myjeeprocks.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=10766

When the offroad community got wind of the proposed plan, they banded together by mostly posting in the virtual rally held by Pirate 4x4 on March 12, while others sent letters to their Congressman. All this support in favor of Johnson Valley caught the attention of the media, political figures, and the US Marine Corps, and they actually acknowledged this outburst of support since they could no longer deny it.

Now, we have an opportunity to follow up on this issue. Congressman Hunter is holding a town-hall meeting this coming Saturday to discuss land use issues in San Diego county. I called his office this morning, and Mr. Mike Harrison told me that they would also listen to concerns regarding Johnson Valley, and possibly work toward a course of action. This was not on their original agenda, but due to the recent attention it received, they will address the JV OHV/29 Palms proposed expansion.

I am asking everyone who can attend to do so. If we don’t, it will fade faster than it came to light. I believe that the more of us show up, the more recognition and attention we will get from Congressman Hunter and any other parties. This is not an issue solely confined to the Johnson Valley area, it impacts ALL of the trails we love to challenge on any given weekend. Today the focus is on JV, but what about tomorrow? Will it be Calico, perhaps Anza, or even Big Bear?

At the time of this post there are 3,689 views for the IDTT thread and a mere 249 views for the Johnson Valley meeting thread, a stunning 15 to 1 ratio. There are also 152 posts in the IDTT thread, compared to only 8 in the JV thread, a 19 to 1 ratio. Now, I completely understand the need to enjoy the trails and to spend time with friends, however there may be fewer trails to enjoy if we don’t act whenever we have the opportunity.

I had a wheeling trip planned for Saturday, but I believe this matter is important enough for me to attend instead, and I hope than many more will in order to help save our trails.

Please try to attend and thank you in advance for your support.

        • to be fair you should factor in the amount of days a thread has been active to get a views per day ratio.

You are right Brian, but I only picked this thread because this is the most active one right now and the meeting with Congressman Hunter is this coming Saturday. I hope that those who missed the other thread might catch this post and have an opportunity to show up.

It is human nature to be more proactive when things happen in our own backyards, and I know that some people have not been to JV and don’t plan to go. However, those same people would most likely ask for help if another area such as Calico were under attack, and I know everyone would try to help.

My intent is not to point fingers or belittle the importance of the IDTT run, far from it. I am simply hoping that my post will generate some interest, and if one person shows up after reading it, I'll have done my job as it would be one more than we currently have.

You are absolutely correct. If folks cared as much about maintaining access to our public lands, the thread about the the meeting in SD would have 5 times as many posts in 1/5 the time.

We know that will never happen, but we will all complain and be sad when we, as it's so aptly put here in the Land Use section, drive up to a locked gate.

I cordially invite you to check any Land Use forum on any Jeep board and post a single example outside of the Rally thread on POR that proves me wrong.

There is a follow up thread about the meeting in SD over there and it's as pathetic as all the other threads on boards about the same meeting.

The Virtual Rally was just the first tiny baby step in this battle. We as a group fired a warning shot across their bow and got their attention. At this point, we can get involved and make that a cannon shot. Or, we can sit back hoping others attend for us effectively reducing it to a BB gun.

BTW- someone in charge should move this out of your nice thread to someplace with a soap box.

                            • I don't think I can make roll call on Saturday. Are you guys going to be on CB or FRS or something so I can find you? If so, what channels?
