  • Death Valley Wilderness Planning

    http://www.nps.gov/deva/parknews/con...tive-final.htm

At the present time, 3,099,770 acres, or 91% of Death Valley National Park is wilderness or managed as wilderness. Death Valley National Park has announced the first stage in the process of revising the plan. They have published a document which contains four conceptual alternatives:
    1. No action -- 3,099,770 acres of wilderness
    2. "Maximizing outstanding opportunities for solitude" -- 3,101,219 acres of wilderness
    3. "More opportunities for those with less experience or less time" -- 3,094,784 acres of wilderness
    4. "Providing for a wider range of visitor experiences" -- 3,094,396 acres of wilderness

The web site says that "Comments are welcome throughout the planning process, though are most beneficial if received by May 1st, 2011."

    Well,
They don't make it easy, but I found the document and read it, then commented on it in length. I hope the PS chooses wisely. When you look at the map, all the alternatives seem to be very small in scope, but just like everything else that we hold dear, a chip here and chip there and pretty soon a chip is all we have left. Please comment on this soon. We need to keep this land open and available.
