At the present time, 3,099,770 acres, or 91% of Death Valley National Park is wilderness or managed as wilderness. Death Valley National Park has announced the first stage in the process of revising the plan. They have published a document which contains four conceptual alternatives:
1. No action -- 3,099,770 acres of wilderness
2. "Maximizing outstanding opportunities for solitude" -- 3,101,219 acres of wilderness
3. "More opportunities for those with less experience or less time" -- 3,094,784 acres of wilderness
4. "Providing for a wider range of visitor experiences" -- 3,094,396 acres of wilderness
The web site says that "Comments are welcome throughout the planning process, though are most beneficial if received by May 1st, 2011."
