This is a fairly long post sorry)but PLEASE take the time to read it.
Some of this will be redundant from other posts and the attempt here is to put this all together in one thread and summarize what can be done and what is being done to fight off this land grab.
Here are the battle fronts:
1. USMC studying the expansion of 29 Palms Marine Base into Johnson Valley
2. OVER 100 Energy projects proposed for the Mojave Desert including:
3. 400+ ft tall wind electric generators atop the Granite Mountains
4. A 13,000+ acre solar power plant covering all of Lucerne Valley Dry Lake. There are proposed 2,000 structures measuring 500’wide x 300’tall solar panels. These would be as tall as a 30 story building and almost as wide as two football fields! This is not a misprint!
5. LADWP running a new high transmission line from Yucca Valley to Apple Valley along the bottom of the north slope of the San Bernardino Mts. Unknown if this would affect access to Rattle Snake Canyon.
What can we do?
1. Write your congressman, especially those of us in Jerry Lewis’s district
2. Make sure you and all your friends and family sign petitions. Sarah started one and only has three signatures.
3. Go to the BLM website and check out all the proposals. Send comments that are mature and thought out.
4. Write the San Bernardino County Supervisors. Again, send comments that are mature and thought out.
5 Talk to everyone you know who will be affected by this.
This evening I met with the new editor of the Lucerne Valley Paper. The paper has just been purchased by Freedom newspapers. (OC Register, VV Daily Press). She does not know the area and wants to get to know the people and the area.
I told her about MJR and what we stand for and we want to invite her to accompany us on some trips into Johnson Valley, the Granite Hills and other areas impacted by all these alternate energy projects. So she can see first hand the impact these projects will have. She is excited about this and really wants to go. I will be contacting Mitch Great 88, our foremost expert on the historical, geological, and cultural sites in and around JV to help me plan a trip.
I also want to plan a trip around and in the Granite Mtns. I know there are very few roads going in and if someone wants to help me put a trip together, either email or PM me. I am tentatively planning for April 13th. I’ll be posting it soon.
Thanks everyone and remember, if we want to preserve public lands for public use, we can not depend on others to do it for us.
