The Old Fire looks like it is going to take out near everything south of the 18 and west of the 330. They're also saying it could jump the 18 and take out Lake Arrowhead.
The wife and I were out at Pilot Rock Road last week. Fun drive but now ALL of the San Bernardino National Forest is closed. Angeles National Forest is contemplating closure as well depending on how the Grand Prix fire goes.
Has anyone heard if the Big Tree north of Rancho Cucamonga was involved in the fire and if it is still there? Hate to think that I missed seeing it in person.
Wholly CRAP!!! Are you serious!?! I haven't heard much about the fires (being in another state and all), I heard they were bad, but that is worse than I imagined!!!
olllllllo <--- If you can read that, roll me over!
Sully, hope we hear from you. Your Jeep is not feeling good and getting it out of there will be another worry. We are pulling for you.
I had to go out to Riverside for something not Jeep related and the smoke in the air made visiblity on the 91 freeway strange. Blood red sun.
Sarah, the whole day I was hearing that they were taking people off the freeway in Hesperia. I was thinking of you the whole time.
I am also thinking of all my friends up in Big Bear. I have a lot of them...I think. They might be out of there right now because they only have jobs during the ski season. I hope so.
My dance teacher has moved her horse to Mojave. I think she passed us while we were coming home. She evacuated him to the desert just in case.
I don't want to get anywhere near a fire. I dealt with a fire at Ft. Huachuca AZ and that was enough for me.
Right now, dealing with not being able to breathe and coughing a lung up.
thanks quiksilver. i heard that there's a fire in hesperia now. i think when we leave AZ this afternoon we'll be taking the 40 through barstow. it will make the drive longer, but it will actually probalby take less time with everything closed. it will be a shock to come back to all of this. i knew i shouldn't have left my kitchen window open, hope my apt. isn't full of smoke.

Sarah, haven't heard of any fire here in Hesperia. My sister lives in the Southern part of Hesperia near Ranchero Road. Haven't heard that she needs a ride out of there, yet! A lot of this is just simple gossip and rumors that people are wanting to spread pandemonium. We'll keep you informed. A good radio station to listen to for US people in the High Desert is High Desert Talk Radio 960 AM. Giving good up to the minute information.

It will be. My Jeep is full of ash and I am 55 miles away. We were watching the ash fall here at work.
Once again. Reports confirmed. NO FIRE in Hesperia. Whoever told you Sarah that there was a fire in Hesperia was misinformed. Hesperia is serving as evacuation sites. Two of our High Schools are shelters for people coming from Lake Arrowhead and the surrounding areas up there. Hesperia Lakes has a few of the evacuees. Besides if Hesperia was on fire, my sister would have to evacuate now. Once again, No fire in Hesperia. Thank God or my mom would have her two daughters and families in her backyard and her backyard wouldn't fit both of us with 3 tents.

WOW! these fires are incredible! i spent the day yesterday helping some good friends just outside of porter ranch get some things together.. scary! we sat on the porch and watched the fire sit at the top of the hill, and not break over the peak
lucky for them, the wind shifted a bit, and everything is still good this morning
pics to come..
this is the simi/chattsworth fire.
here are some pictures of the simi/chattsworth fire.
this is a pic from my friends back porch.. this fire is waaay too close! you could just see the flame tips over the hill..
after a while, it started to look like this... which is good... fire fighters were making many chemical sweeps right over the mountain.. pretty wild to watch.
this is one of the helicopters that was dumping on the fire.

One of our partners here at the firm is at home right now. She can see the flames from her house. The rest of the office has offered all sorts of storage and moving assistance. We're ready to help her if she needs it.
It's great how everyone's friends and even aquaintances are just jumping in.
