Make sure you get 5.56 nato chamber or Wilde chamber if you want to use mil surplus ammo. There is a big write up somewhere what the difference is and why not to use .223 rem chamber with NATO ammo.I defiantly like the looks of the flitted yhm barrel. LG my buddy has everything for reloading like I said he has developed his own loads to 1moa at 100 yards .Thing is he was not happy with those results so we traded uppers. Talking with a guy on cl about buying some powder and primers and sharing the shipping cost. He says it after it's all said and done it cost about .20 cents a round. I wonder why so much more than .12 cents a round?

Why the 1/7? That twist doesn't do well with 55 gn bullets at all.
I use 1/9 and all is good with all bullet weights.
Why the fluting?
Look at Brownells

I know how you feel about the fluted barrels. I like the way they look( don't judge me ). I like everything about the hammer forged barrels, but the price. too much for me.It was like that when I got here.

1/7 is 'faster' than 1/9........
Go with a 'mil-spec' hvy bbl. w/NATO chamber.
The bbl is NOT a place to go the CHEAP.......
Cry one time...Get the best....DON'T 'settle'......
Looky see.

Look'n over my notes and log book, 1/7 does just fine with 55 gn bullets. You just don't want to go lighter is all and it's the best choice for the 'heavies'......
Sorry for the mistake on my part. My CRS is in 'bloom'.

Oh ya, 1 full twist per 7" is faster. Duh. I wasn't thinking a heavy barrel would be for me. Gov't or std profile is what I was thinking. A LW or pencil barrel is NOT an option.
I know it wouldn't be your pick, but I don't think the YHM barrel is "go'n cheap", (here's the can of worms), do you?It was like that when I got here.

Never said it was. Nor would I, YHM makes go c'it! So does others.
Just not the only brand out there, don't 'drown' in the flavor of the month.
I have had very good outcome with Armalite bbls. But, they don't show any in stock now.
The pic. I sent you is of my ArmaLite with NM hvy 16" bbl that looks like G.I. issue. They made 3 bbls for me like that. They shoot "bug-hole" 5 shot groups. It's a "sleeper" that fools many folks as to how well it shoots.
That's the AR I used at Gunsite in the past, and will again this Nov.

Way to pricey for me . Funny thing is that gas piston design been around for years in the sks,ak rifles and my fal has an adjustable regulated gas piston. I heard the special forces still run the good ol gas tube setup but who knows. IMO the more moving parts the more things to go wrong but I guess it's all relative.
