We went through this 1500 bucks went bye bye. we caught it within a day, went to the bank filled out paperwork and they basically put the money back pending their investigation. Haven't had a problem since, was nice to have the dough back where it belonged within 24 hours

Happened to us. Our bank was really good to work with. I think I got hit at the Pilot Truck Stop at Kramer Junction.

I'm mostly a cash guy. but I'm always looking around me to see if there's an assnapkin (like it Scott) who may want to jump me.

        UPDATE:

Well, after talking to my bank this morning it looks like they only got away with a little over $300. Don't know if they were amateurs or what but in a 5 hour period last Sunday afternoon they hit 4 conveniance stores in the same area of Las Vegas, which alerted my bank that something might be up and they froze my card until they could get a hold of me. Thank God for the folks in the Fraud Department!!

The bank is being good about it and will get the money back into my account but, man.... what a hassle! Having to write Letters, file Police Reports, waiting for a new ATM Card..... It SUCKS!

I'm really hoping some major :bolt: "ASSNAPKIN KARMA" :bolt: catches up with these "Turd Bandits" and exacts some serious revenge....

I'm still so :angry::angry::angry::angry: I can't see straight! but, also thankful it wasn't as bad as some of the stories you all have posted on here!

For a Family that already lives Paycheck to Paycheck any amount of money lost hurts!

Thanks to all of you for your thoughs and well wishes!

        Scott

I got a call the other day, asking for me specifically, first and last name. The caller ID'd herself, but didn't say whom she was calling for. She said she needed to verify my address...in Las Vegas. When I told her that wasn't my address, she then stated, is this your social security number, "..." Again, I said no, and I was waiting for the, "what is your correct address and ssn so we can update our records?" She just said, "ok, thank you" and hung up.

Slightly worried, I went online to check my credit report. Thankfully, nothing out of the ordinary!

BTW, when people steal your cc or atm information, they typically will wait a while before using the information. You can remember where you were this week and last week, but what about 2 months ago?

My wife got a call last weekend from the bank asking if she used her atm card @ 4:30 am on Sunday morning. Obviously she didnt and the bank cancelled her card and reissued a new one in about 2 days. The bank has a good redflag system in place apparently.

Sounds like a collection call. I got a call from a rude biotch a few years back calling to collect on my student loan . . . I've never had a student loan . . . and when I explained this she demanded my SSN . . . hell no I'm not giving out my SSN . . . she got all snippy, which was fine . . . I got all snippy with her boss a few minutes later!!!
That which does not kill me postpones the inevitable.

Not this time, I had only had that card 2 or 3 weeks at the most. I was a brand new Card with a New ATM Card # as well! They worked this one fast!

I've had mine swiped twice...but not from using the card somewhere. When the bank automatically sent me replacement cards in the mail, someone at the post office copied the number thru the envelope and had fun shopping online. The bank called me at work and stopped everything. Then they sent me a new card...guess what? Same thing happened with the new card. So I put in fraud report at police station & the postal office. I had the bank have the third card held at the Branch office for me to pickup and canceled my PO box service.

Years later, the police report paid off when I received several collection notices for utilities & cell phones in my name that were started at the same time of the fraud. I faxed them the copy of the police report and everything was cleared off my name.

                  It is scary out there!!

Another phishing attempt I've gotten several times is via a text message to my phone. It says, "Your Chase Visa card has been blocked due to an error, please call (123)456-7890 to re-activate your card. We apologize for the inconvenience." Gotten this 3 times with 3 different bank names. I call and its a "robot" that asks me to enter the 16 digit account number from the front of my card. I randomly enter 16 digits. "Thank You. So that we can verify your identity, please enter your full social security number." Again, I input random numbers. "Thank you. To fully re-activate your card, please enter your date of birth." I enter random numbers. "Thanks you, your card has be re-activated...sorry for the inconvenience."

Do people really fall for things like this!?

Well, I definatly learned alot from this fiasco! From what I gather you can't trust anyone! I now know that I may have been wrong in my assumtion that it occured at the ARCO in Victorville and the theft could have been from that nice lady I gave my new card info to while I was updating my payment info with my internet service provider or phished off of the PayPal site when I updated that info or at any of the 30 or so places that I used my new card since I got it. I can say that I will be extra vigilant in the future and I will for sure change the way I do buisness with all of my cards!

My Bank has reembursed every cent of the stolen money as of this morning. That sure was a short 10 to 20 day investigation!!

                      My Bank Rocks!

Do you think you can spot an ATM card and PIN skimmer?

                              we do
after our bought with it, I pay by cash or check, if they do not take a check I go elsewhere.
We recovered all our losses, but it is the hassle of it all, reports new cards etc. I would hate for it to go on again because we used a atm card somewhere.
My father has had that aptitude since ATMS first came out and never has had a problem, seeing how he is worth enough to make 6 kids financially independent when he kicks, I follow his advise a lot

Just FYI. paying by check is just as bad if not worse than your ATM.
