I am so sorry to hear this sad news. Dogs have and always will be a part of my family, and they are just that, more like my kids really. It is heartbreaking to having lost a pet. I can only say it appears and I believe the past couple weeks were the happiest weeks of her life. Your family was good to her and I'm sure she knew it.I'll keep my money, guns and freedom...you can keep the "Change".

I don't know what to say...
as i finished my morning coffee watching my own dog Fred run around with a hula-hoop in his mouth (his favorite toy), I remembered the Woods family added a K9 member to their already close & loving family. Thinking to myself, that's one lucky pooch!
Still feel this, even the last days... RIP Roxy!
A Dogs Poem...
Once I was a lonely dog just looking for a home. I had no place to go, no one to call my own. I wandered up and down the streets in rain, in heat, in snow. I ate whatever I could find, I was always on the go.
My skin would itch, my feet were sore, and my body ached with pain. No one stopped to give me a pat or gently say my name. I never saw a loving glance, I was always on the run. For people thought that hurting me was really lots of fun.
Then one day I heard a voice so gentle, kind and sweet, with arms so soft that reached down to me and took me off my feet. “No one again will hurt you,” was whispered in my ear. “You’ll have a home to call your own where you will know no fear.”
“You will be dry, you will be warm, you’ll have enough to eat. And rest assured that when you sleep, your dreams will all be sweet.” I was afraid, I must admit, I’ve lived so long in fear. I can’t remember the last time when I let a human come so near.
As they tended to my wounds and bathed and brushed my fur, they told me about this “rescue group MJR” and what it meant to them.
MJR said, “we are a circle, a line that never ends.. In the center of it, there is you, protected by new friends. All around you are the ones that check the pounds, and those who share their homes with you after you’ve been found.”
“All the other folks are searching near and far, to find the perfect home for you, where you can be a star.” they said, “there is a family, they are waiting very patiently, and pretty soon we’ll find them, just you wait and see.”
“And then they’ll join our circle, they’ll help to make it grow, so there’ll be room for more like you who have no place to go.”
I waited very patiently. The days, they came and went. Today is the day, I kept on thinking, my family will be sent. Then just when I began to think it wasn’t meant to be, there were people standing there gazing down at me.
“I could tell they felt it, too, for a special dog like you.”Jeep

Nathan,
Roxie had a good family looking after here when she passed, so even though her time in your family was brief, remember her and the smiles she brought in to your home. Hopefully another hound dog will find its way into your life soon. I know mine sure makes every day a wonder to behold... In more ways than one![CENTER][COLOR=#ff0000]Resistance Off Road

I'm so sorry Nathan . . . this is truly sad. As others have mentioned, at least she spent her final days with a warm loving family and not out in the cold suffering. I can only imagine how difficult this has been on your family . . . my thoughts are with you. That which does not kill me postpones the inevitable.

Wow, that is horrible. I was just telling my wife the story a couple days ago. She was touched by the kindness your family had for taking in Roxy. I'm sure that she had an amazing end to a tragic life. You and your family should be proud of what you did.

To All:
My wife and I are deeply touched by all the support we have received from the members of this community. Between the responses to this thread (thanks for making us cry Patrick!), to all the PM's, emails and phone calls. It's been an amazing experience and we are so happy to be a part of MJR's extended family. What a solid group of people! Thank you all, very, very much.
Many of you have offered us methods to help ease the pain, including contacts to breeders, friends, and in a few cases, actual puppies ready for adoption. You're collective support, compassion, and generosity have been incredible!
The stories shared, and information provided has genuinely helped, and made a positive impact. We sat down with the kids last night and discussed looking for a new dog. Their reactions were amazing. Like watching a wilted plant spring forth in the sunlight, they excitedly agreed to open their hearts once again. There was some initial trepidation from our daughter. She was concerned about having another animal pass away, but this was resolved and watching her smile grow and grow was one of those cherishable parenting moments.
Thanks to Tami & Chris, we have been put in contact with a breeder in Yucca Valley whom we will visit tomorrow.
I fully expect this story to have a very happy ending, and all you have been a major part in making it such.
Thank you from the Woods Family.Last edited by nwoods; 04-01-10, 11:51 AM.Off road adventure photography:

Nathan,
I'm not sure how old the puppy is you might choose out at Tammy's ranch, but here's a little advise that I could have used when I went to get Ozzi.
Ozzi had never been in a vehicle. I picked him up in my Jeep (he was just 3 months old). No top, no doors. I put him in the bucket seat and he settled in for the long 3 hour ride to La Habra. He was doing soooo good for about 10 minutes. Then the fun started. He power puked, as in fire hose, high pressure, gallons per minute kind of industrial puke only a dog that has just eaten grass and kibble can blow. Well, at 65 MPH the wind does funny things in a Jeep. I found out where the vortex forms behind the windshield. It grabbed that fire hose of barf and sent it first up and over the windshield, then right back into the Jeep, mostly in my direction. That was fun. We made it to Lucern to the gas station where I cleaned Ozzi and me up with windshield washer fluid and towels. I figured he'd blown all he could possibly blow, but I was so wrong. By the time we got home, he was passed out and too weak to lift his little head, and when I went to pick him up out if the seat, the pool of barf he'd laid in for the past tow hours had dried to a super glue-like consistency. So, tearing from the seat, I got him inside, cleaned him up and the got the seats out of the Jeep for a deep, deep cleaning.
All this story just to say, take a bunch or towels and be ready just in case...[CENTER][COLOR=#ff0000]Resistance Off Road

LOL!. I just laughed so hard I blew coffee out my nose. Yeah, Tammy warned us about that (can you belive there are three different Tammy's in this saga?) She promised not to feed them in the morning before we arrive, and, we will be in the Armada which is pretty kid proof, hopefully dog proof. We will have towels, and we have a waterproof doggie mat that covers the entire rear cargo area.Off road adventure photography:
