  • Being Prepared for the Trails

I was just wonder what your opinion is:

I wheel with the same group of guys. But something has really been bugging me; i always seem to be the guy airing up everyone's wheels after a fun day on the rocks!!!!

Now don't get me wrong; I'll be the first guy to lend a hand to a fellow Jeeper and share whatever i have. But i'm talking about every time we go out, I have to air about 4 Jeeps back up after the trails. I have never said anything to them nor do I plan on telling them "get your own air" but it has been really bugging me lately. It's as if everyone has come to expect me to supply the air.

Am I wrong and being a jerk or do you think people should be prepared with their own equipment?

Just wondering what your opinion is.

          Roy,

That could get old. Especially the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th time. I'm lucky that almost all of "our" group has compressors. Maybe you should bring that up when you set up the next run. Just let them know that you have spent your money and they need to step up and do the same. Saying something is appropriate!

Tell them to buy each other a compressor for Xmas.

Xmas should fall just before your next run!

Sorta looks like you already told them. Right here!
It's up to you; if they are your freinds, tell them. If they get butt hurt, so be it. I lend air whenever it's needed, but I guess it would get old doing the same ol same ol all the time.

Here is my take. First, it seems to be the "air" that bugs most. It's not tools, or a jack. It's the air. Not sure why?

With that said. I would simply say, "your done and put it up already, sorry". Most of the people here are big boys and can handle it. You could also post on the runs your going on "bring your air compressor, pull strap, etc". Push it. Most will get the hint. But, like someone said above, you already kind of said that now. So, I doubt you will get asked much.

Maybe some of them are new? Maybe they think they are a lot of money? Maybe educate them on where they can get one and the price? I think when people see the new guy getting stuff people don't mind helping. I know my last two runs I had no air. I do now. After first run, I got a strap. It takes time. For me, I am out with friends, so I could care less if someone asks me for something.

Keep in mind though. That can so bite you in the ass as well. If your luck is like mine, you will be the one needing a tool one time and that same guy you turned down will be the only one who has it! Food for thought.

You need to say something to your friends. And don't wait till the end of the trail. When everyone stops to air down tell them to not air down unless they are prepared to air up. Airing down is a beneficial but is not mandatory. I wheeled for years without airing down. Do you have an electric compressor. If so tell them that you are going to burn out the motor if every time you used it you are airing up 16-24 tires. Its designed to air up 4 tires and then cool down.

tell them you are in a hurry to make an appointment and they will have to creep to the station.
Most guys are not going to buy a air system untill they have too.

If it is free air, it shouldn't be a problem but if you pay for it (co2), then it should be a problem. i have no problem helping outbut if it is time and time again, I usually say something to get their attention.

Either tell your friends or look for some other wheeling buddies, I don't care for people that mooch all the time.

I have to agree there. If they are your friends, then who cares. Your probably going to ask them for something at one time too. If not, then get a sticker or sign that says $2 a tire. Make it funny, and they will get the hint. Like the people who have signs that say "not for hire". It's to keep their friends from asking to use their truck. lol

Refer them to Harbor Freight...this air compressor goes on sale all the time. The normal price of $69.99 is a good one. The compressor works great to fill up 4 tires after a run...just keep the Jeep running while it's working. It worked for me for a few years until I got my onboard air system. My bro still uses his Harbor Freight cheapy!
