  • BEWARE of Discount tire

i had taken my jeep in to have the tires and wheels that i bought from them 3 years ago rebalanced and have the one slow leak fixed. they scratched my rims and told me it was from me hitting curbs. the manager told me he personally worked on my jeep himself and he didnt fix the leak beacuse he didnt see it leaking from anywhere. and that he never broke down any of the tires to spin them to help them balance better (which is a lie because i have pictures of it from the summer time and the valve stems are in different locations then they are now on all 4 of them) so the manager tells me he'll get ahold of a guy at a corporate office and have him call me. he told me the guy would could me before noon on monday. well he never called at all so i called the manager this morning and told him im still waiting on the phone call he told me the guy would call me soon. 5 mins later the guy calls. he tells me that the manager told him he watched the two guys work on my jeep and that they never broke any of the tires down except the one to replace the valve because it was bad. i then said wait a minute the manager told me he worked on it himself and didnt find a leak now hes telling u he watched two other guys work on it and they did find a leak. he told me to take it to another discount tire location and ask the manager there what he thinks. he told me its not from a curb but he doesnt know what could cause that (its obvious its from a duckhead on the tire machine) i stop at two other tire shops on the way home and they both tell me its from a worn out duck head on a tire machine. i also recently got a job at a tire shop and everyone there said the same thing. so i tried calling the coporate guy back but he had already left for the day and this was at 130pm. it seems to me like they're just beating around the bush to get out of fixing this problem. but im not giving up. this has been posted on all the jeep forums i am on and the diesel forums my brother is on so if you see this again well sorry.

stay at it! I had something happen with my jeep and it ended up costing me $1000 to get fixed because the brake master cylinder this shop installed died TWICE! because of this, had to get my jeep towed, brake pads were toasted, labor, and ended up having to buy my own cylinder when i was out of town. The F'n place would not refund me the money for the new MC. Said it was not their fault. I even got to speak to the divisional manager after I wrote a long complaint letter to there corporate office. I was yelling and cussing at this guy! He told me the only thing he could do was refund me $40 for labor. I told him where to shove that $40 and hung up on him!

long story short. DONT GO TO EVANS TIRE IN PACIFIC BEACH SAN DIEGO!

hope you get some new wheels out of this. This is BS! I hate bad mechanics!

I have gone to them several times and had no issues. In fact, they do more for me than what I ask for or give me sweet deals. They are part of America's Tire and have really been happy with them too! In fact, they know me at our local America's Tire because I go in every 3000 miles for a rotation/balancing. They get me right in and do an awesome job.

It must just be the shop you went to that is below standard. I would suggest writing the Better Business Bureau. They really do work in your favor.

Sounds like a bad experience at a bad shop. My local DT in La Crescenta sold me a lifetime alignment and lifetime tire balancing. I have used both several times, and always try to give them a little billable work each time- like radiator flush, brake flush etc just to motivate them a bit. They do a great job and even replaced a 33" BFG MT under a "road hazard" warranty this past summer.

It sounds like its just your local shop. We have had nothing but great service at our three local America's Tires shops. We've been buying tires from them for years and years. For our trucks, our trailer, our cars and of course, our Jeeps. They have always honored their warranties on our tires as well.

Granted, if someone scratched my rims, it would just blend in with the rest of the gouges and scratches...

My local America's Tires gave me grief when I went to warranty my tire. After pressing they finally replaced the tire but told me they will only do it 1 time. I still have warranties on the other 4 tires. Of which I need to cash in on one. I'm too happy with them right now. I remember when I purchased the tire I told them that I off-road! They said "No problem." Right......

chris i don't know why you found this thread hard to read it made perfect sense to me and obviously everybody else since there were replies before yours that made no mention of the hard to read thread. i feel bad that the original posters tires were messed up by discount tire and that they are not living up to their mess and giving him problems with living up to their mistake and not admitting they scratched up his tires. it sucks that they even said the stems were not changed even though the original poster has pictures of his jeep from last summer where you can tell the stems are obviously different and have been changed or moved or something since last summer. i hope that the original poster can talk to somebody in the company that is higher than the manager and get something done about his problems.
