  • Any experience with water purifiers???

Here's the story... I'm going on a fishing trip to Canada this summer. It's a fly-in trip so weight is an issue. We can't bring cases of bottled water, just to heavy. The cabin has running water but is fed directly from the lake so we need to filter it. I need something that will process enough drinking water for 6 adults, daily.

Last time I used something like this...

it's got a flow rate of about a liter a minute. kinda slow.

I'm thinking about getting something like this...

says it has a flow rate of 2 quarts a minute, a little less than twice as fast as the other one.

anyone have any experience with any of this??? any recommendations???

I've used the drip kind, but that's just for filling canteens and stuff. If you have plumbing, why not one of these...

Just a fawcet mounted Brita filter.

i have one of the earlier models of the "sweetwater" purifier, and have had no problems with it at all in the years i've owned it.

these have a wonderful pump design. it is easy to use, and tend to outlast the other types.

this one was popular among the hikers on our trip last year.

it is the Katadyn Hiker PRO Water Filter. i didnt like the pump design, and there was a failure among the 3 on the trail with us.

this one seems to get the best rviews though i dont like the pump design.

get one with a good warranty, and a high volume of purified water.

here is another option for the base camp:

be sure to have more than one filter. it would really suck to plunk down all of that coin on a fishing trip to be stuck with no clean water for a 60 dollar filter.
      have at least 2.
if you dont use the other, you can always return it.
hell, you can borrow mine for a back-up

that's the one i have for backpacking. a little heavy but never let me down, is supposedly a better filter than the other ones, and it's faster than all the rest also. as a backup you can get iodine tablets and filter water with a paper coffee filter, albeit ghetto.

let me chime in here as a canadian.

          first off what lake????

second of all, ive had a cabin all my life and drank enough lake water to know that the old syaing "what doesnt kill ya only makes you strong" is true. purifiers are for panzies. just get tabs and coffee filters as said in a previous post. and to get rid of the lake taste use crystal light to flavour it. or lemon juice. its easy and cheap and always works!

Yeah, the crystal light idea works great.

Thanks for the input guys, I'll check the stuff out.
