That is still waaay too much.
I'll just have to wait for it to come down a bit.
I have seen it as low as 2179, but that is too much.

I agree. Samy's also has a ID for $4999.00. I'm seeing them elsewhere for almost twice that much. Think I'll count all my change in the ash tray and see how close I come to affording that!

They do have the Canon 20mm wide angle for $499.00/ I think I'm going there...

20mm is not wide, unless you are shooting full frame, then it's sorta-wide. Once you strap on a 10mm, you've never look back.

Or, you might try my normal walk about lens, the 16-35mm F2.8 L MkII. It's sharp and sufficently wide, and mounts on a 5D or 7D or 1D for that matter.

I keep that 16-35 lens on my camera most of the time. It is tack sharp, light, and has a good range.
I also really like the 24-70 lens, but not quite as much as the 16-35.

This is all on the 50D which is not "Full Frame". I really want to get my grubby hands on a full frame camera and get a bit more serious about this stuff

So Eric, did Santa leave enough moola after the Jeep makeover for full frame sensor camera? If so, what are you doing with the 50D? My 20D is starting to wear out and become a bit inconsistent in exposure settings and so forth. Having to do a lot of PP to get a nice predictable image

              No... Not just yet.
I'll likely hang onto the 50D to have on hand as a spare. I'm trying to get my hands onto a press pass and get tied into some of the local publications for photo submittal. No luck yet, but I'm pushing.

I figure, I enjoy taking photos, and being where the action is, so I may as well try to make a couple of buck on it.

              We'll see how that goes

This is my New Year's Resolution this year! I plan to go through my Archive and start looking for Stock worthy images that I can maybe make a few pennies on. I figure if I sell enough pictures, maybe those pennies will turn into a 7D....

My goal in this is more to get into the behind the scenes areas in shows, concerts, plays, races, etc... and get some shots of things not seen by all.
I have a bunch of emails out to numerous bands and local talent trying to get my foot in the door.

I'll be seeing Flogging Molly tonight at the House Of Blues, though I was unable to get a press pass for this one. I hope to be able to corner band management and have a discussion with them just to get a feel for what it takes.

I really enjoy seeing these live band performances and would like to shoot them in action.

These were taken with the 10D and a 70-200 2.8 Sigma lens reaching quite a distance. This is what planted the seed for my wanting to do this live band shooting.

I would sure like to be in a better position for this.

I am working on attaining a press pass for Coachella and stagecoach as well as a bunch of other venues.

                  Good times... Man, Good times

Theres an even newer camera out now that is so sofisticated and has so many features, you don't need it...

I want the 7D but can't justify buying it. I have the 40D and don't use it often enough! Maybe eventually I'll get it.
                      WILL WORK FOR JEEP PARTS!!!

Wow, these band managers and promoters are actually listening to what I have to say. First gig on the 7th .
I have been speaking with Ratt promoters as well. Hmmmm.. this could get fun.

Making some strong contacts with people in the right positions here in the past couple of days.
                        I'm getting excited about it.

The power of the internet never ceases to amaze me.

Nailer, I would suggest that shooting bands in still motion is going to be a thing of the past in very short time. Check out an aquaintence's work: http://www.vimeo.com/3750574

This one is pretty cool too, but of a different nature:
                          http://www.vimeo.com/7991728

THey were both shot on a Canon 5D MkII, but the 7D will do it too, maybe even better.

I hear what you are saying, but I don't see "stills" disappearing completely. They still need print articles, album covers etc..

The art of still photography will always be around.

I have already made arrangements with a local paper to print, and interview the local bands for which i take the photos, so this is actually moving along quicker than I expected.

Once I get some of these in print, and develop a solid portfolio, this stuff might actually make me money. In the mean time i am getting int the shows for free with access to some behind the scenes areas.

I don't want to count any eggs just yet, but there is promise.
