Little change up on you guys

Anton Larsen Island, Laura's Cove, 45 minutes from the town of Kodiak Island in Alaska where the Kodiak Spirit gets it's name.

This is looking out from the cabin on a semi-low tide:

This is looking across the island at my Great Grandmother's cabin from the beach of my Grandmother's cabin in Laura's Cove:

This is looking back at Grandma's cabin at high-tide:

FYI...the 6 1/2 acres to the left (East) of the cabin are for sale. We also have a 33 acre parcel on an island for sale either in 5 acre increments with a common use area or the entire parcel. If interested contact Kodiak Spirit.

Just thought I would share the new toy I'm getting. Pictures are just going to get better. I will also be getting a telephoto macro lens with it.

Check out this site if you haven't already. Good write ups and comparisons. The Evolt gets fairly good reviews...

Today I threw down $500 on this: Barbs B-Day & Anniversary Gift

Now...shhhhh don't tell her. She'll get it before the IDTT run; although her birthday was in January and our anniversary is in July. I know NOTHING about cameras...so Kurt, I'm hoping you'll help with doo-dads.

Nice! That will be a great starter kit for her. First thing; get some 2,3 or 4 GB cards. I'm pretty sure yours uses the same type (SD compact flash) as mine. 1GB cards won't last very long (fill up too fast) when you're shooting for effect (raw image)... Maybe a tripod, and she's got a sweet little set up.

                    Kurt
Thanks for the link. I have seen that one along with out about 500 others. I've been researching for about 3 weeks (my head hurts) and finally decided on the e-510. There are a lot of good choices out there. I think I'll be happy with it. The one thing that seems to be a consistent gripe is the 3 AF points. I'm not to worried about that as I will not be using AF to often.

                    By the way great shots.:thumbs_up

Very nice choice. A lot of good reviews for the Rebel. The Rebel XTi 400d was my second choice. She'll be very happy with that camera.

how much of a difference am I going to see between 8mp and 10mp?

I resubmitted my order for the Rebel XT instead of the XTi; saved a large lump of $$. Got a better lens, UV cover for the lens...and...rapid 1G card...

                        But what did I sacrifice?

You won’t notice a difference unless you’re planning on printing the images on large media bigger then 11x14. On of the biggest misconceptions when people go buy a camera is that they need the most mega pixels. This should not be the main reason you buy a camera IMO. For the average Joe 5 mega pixels is sufficient. This will give you great quality pictures for your 4x6, 5x7, and Internet posting pictures. The larger the prints the more your picture will lose it’s sharpness so you need to increase the mega pixels to regain the sharpness. You will be very happy with your choice. 8-mega pixel is plenty and you really can’t go wrong with a Canon. I bought a 10-mega pixel because I do plan on blowing up and framing some of my quality shots.
This explains it better then I can

I don't know... Sounds like you explained it pretty damn well Chuck.

                            Nick,
I use the Rebel XT. It's perfect for what I do, and it's extremely versitile. I'm still learning how to use all the features. Barb will be very happy. Get some more filters; they really make a difference. And I routinely enlarge photos to 11x14 and even larger with 8-mega pixels. No prob.
