  • BF frame brackets

I am looking for leaf spring frame brackets. I have torn/mashed/cracked the stock brkts on my YJ. I want to cut them off and go with something beefy.

That's the main eye end, not the shackle end.

I could fabricate from RSJ but I'd rather not

    Any recommendations?

Good guess, that would be RSS

RSJ is rolled steel joist: the I beam stuff they use for structural steel.

It is Nailer341's preferred project material

I got me some 1/4" steel plate and a box of jig-saw blades.

I have cut the side plates and put a jog in them to go from 2.5" at the frame to 3" at the spring.

I think I am ready to cut off the stock brkts and start the welding :yay:

make them smaller than the stock ones. you'll be glad you did. shaving mine made a big difference in hang ups on the trail.
            doooo it.
be sure to post some pictures

            here is mine...

            before

            after

this is how much i removed.

there was a very minor adjustment to the pinion angle

Humph....Making them shorter is gonna' lose height...I guess you gain clearance in a critical area...i'm not convinced... do you really hit them less often, does 1" make that much diff?

yes indeed. it lets the tire get to the rock before the metal.
it was a great mod, and i'm glad i did it. i would do it again in a heartbeat.
you'll only lose about 1/2" of height. longer shackles in the rear are not a problem...

                  your mounts look nice.

someday we'll have a thread about minimizing TJ frame mounts.

                      Pics, pics, pics

Today we cut off the old shite and welded on the good stuff :yay:

Before: previous repairs, new cracks, elongated holes, generally naffed

Here's David getting jiggy with the plasma (thanks Dave, nice hat btw)

A dry run. After welding as an assembly, the brackets were so tight on the frame I had to use a VBFH (more by luck than judgement :yay: )

After: groovy or what!!?! Notice we also trimmed back the body mount.
