      Hey Josh,

Are you really thinking about wheeling again? I'll belive it when I see you up here in the desert! Did you get all of the other new stuff installed? Let me know when you are ready.

Hey I have a Currie on my LJ & I bent it awhile back I have it off & straightened it & was very disappointed as it bent like butter not the chrome molly they say it is, I called them & got the tough crappo dude, not happy about their attitude, but I think they should do something ab out heat treating it to give it some bounce if its C/M, but what do I know I just bent them

The Currie stuff is a no-brainer Mike. Just bolt it on and go. Everything else I've seen has a built in compromise or requires fab work.

Thanks Chris. I just ordered it from Northridge 4x4. They were $20 cheaper than the rest of the folks that I checked and shipping is free.

I got the Currie on Chris's recommendation too. Mine is already bent, but it is due to driver error... :bonk:

I have purchased from Northridge4x4 a few times and always been happy. Even called David a couple of times for questions about parts, products, etc. He's a good guy in my experience.

Good to know . . . I've always heard good things about David with Northridge4x4 . . . seems like most people that use them have positive experiences. I should have just bought the Currie to begin with but having upgraded the tie-rod already it's hard to throw a bunch of cash at it. If anybody's got a stock draglink that they don't need that I could pick up cheap, let me know as I'd like to have a spare as that'll probably be my weak point now.

We bend chrome moly all the time. We even bend solid 4340 chrome moly in 1.25" diameter.

What we don't do is blow the tie rod ends or rod ends off the knuckle and that's a good thing.

I can build you a tie rod that you can't bend, but you won't like what it does to your tie rod ends or knuckle steering arms if you hit it like you did your Currie.

Besides, it's truly not that big of a deal to pop the tie rod off, toss it in a press and straighten it right back out. Not to mention that it is Chrome moly and it is heat treated. It's just not brought up high enough on the Rockwell hardness scale that it breaks before it bends.

Personally, I'd rather drive home on a bent tie rod than figure out how to stick a broken one back together on the trail.

                            Third.

...and trust me, I've driven quite a distance on a bent one. My tires weren't happy with me.

I did a search last weekend for tie rod ends and came up with quite a few hits that sell all kind of the stuff you need to make your own. I think a bit of welding if you use the inserts, or buy a tap set with reversed threads to do the threaded way would be all it take.
I was quoted 100 dollars for a custom drag link is why I started looking, but now I realize that tie rods and drag links is a high profit business, wow they are getting a lot for that stuff. Seeing as this is a place that gets a lot of contact I think I may invest in a set of the regular and reversed taps. I have 2 cjs and a jk to think about, the cjs both have custom steering setups and I have tried to order a tie rod by length, but everyone wants the vehicle it came from or they call it custom. I think that it would be just too easy to make one any length you want.
Just a few thoughts, I have enjoyed the thread and wanted to add a few things to it.

                                personal experince

Well.... I have had, A Big daddy set up, Currie set up and The Rock Krawler X Factor HD... By far i like the Rock Krawer the best! The tie rod is more stout than the Currie, from personal experince... Plus i measured flex with my currie set up than measured with the Krawler set up and there was a 1 1/4in more flex with Krawler. More than likely due to the heim joints. Not to mention the Krawler set up sets on top of the steering knuckle...

                                P.S.
If anyone is intersted, i have a Currie set up for sale lol
