Are you simply bolting those shock towers on? Hmmmmm-sure wish you had a welder. Bolt them on first to make sure that they are positioned correctly and then weld them on!
You can always do that later, though.
    Actually, they're purple. Hey, it's Barb's Jeep.

Yea, gonna keep them like this for a few to be sure I don't want to cut them down a little bit. Then, when I do decide it's welding time, I'll pay Chris or someone with a clue to do it. See axle welds.... :censor:

I don't know why you would want to cut them down.....Other than maybe the fender interferes with the shock tower--then it's time for tube fenders!

Seeing it without the fenders on it with the new lift makes me want tube fenders NOW. But $$ wont support it and I really just want to get it out on the trail. Its been up on jack stands for almost 2 months now. I gotta see what it will do now. The fenders dont get in the way too much right now. I didn't cut them or anything yet.

The selection of shocks on a 'resting height' of 26" is sorta small. I went with Bilstein's 5150 shocks. I have yet to receive them, but I just hope the attached side resevoir doesn't get in the way too much.

I've been working non-stop for a while now, but not on the Jeep. New Afghanistan rotation has us pulling double shifts until Mid-March. I'm wiped out. Speaking of which...it's 11pm...I'd better get going into work.

          • Sorry guys...work has had me slammed the last few weeks.

Latest on "Hector". [I gotta change the name of her rig, I can't stand saying "I gotta get under Hector today".] I've got the rig home in the garage. I've still got some problems to sort out before IDTT. One, which to me is major, is tranny leak.... the second is those damn rear shock mounts. I have changed my mind several times on how to make the upper mounts for the rear shocks. I'm not sure what to do yet actually.

I'm having some minor problems with the carb, but Paul is helping me out with that since he has the same carb on his rig.

Still some minor things like that to take care of, but I can drive it now.

OH! Anyone that knows someone at ARB please let me know. I need a part from them to make my compressor work...I need a new "firewall connector" (both sides). Please don't ask because I'm a bonehead.

One of many reasons you ALWAYS give your Jeep a girl's name.

Yes, but what is Barb to say when she's on the trail? "I really worked Tanya over good today..."

                Wait...

Sorry you're having trouble mounting Hector. That tranny needs to stop taking a leak on you!

I picked up some upper mounts from MORE. They were a bit pricey but these things are STRONG! I wouldn't have been able to create such stout mounts on my own. The best part about them is that if I get a body lift, I can mount them backwards and gain another inch.

                  • I took a look at the mounts from MORE...those arent going to work for me. Mostly because they bolt into the original shock mounts...and um...those aren't there anymore.

I believe Erik did something similar to this, and it may be a viable option for me. Problem is, I'm severely short on time. I'm going to fab something up, and then re-look at it after IDTT.

                            • Ron! Yes, and the YJ made it to IDTT this year. And I thought it made it through with no damage, but I've now got a serios list to the drivers side and what feels like a pinion angle vibration. My HOPE is that either a spring perch broke free (see crappy welds) or I broke a spring. My fear is that I spun an axle tube (see crappy welds) or something like that.

So...wait...I guess thats a no, the YJ is going to get looked at this week and not driven until I can figure out this vibration and "list" problem.
