  • CB SWR Meter???

My Cobra (all in headset) CB and a FireStick 4' Antenna (tune by hand) finally came today . . . just in time for Big Bear this weekend!!! Looks like I'll need to get a SWR meter to tune the antenna . . . Radio Shack carries one I just have to track one down as the store by my house is out. It costs about $50 . . . does that sound about right? Any ideas on where else might carry one?

I found one for about $25.00 at a local truck stop. Thats where i would check for all kinds of CB stuff. External speakers, antenas, all that stuff.
    That's a BIG rock!

It might be too late...but you could try Fry's...they carry more than Radio Shack these days..

I only see one on Fry's Website:

Vanco: SWR3-SWR Meter analog - It's only $10 will this work or do I need something different?

            Tuning Antenna

Thanks guys . . . I found one at Fry's. I hooked it up and everything looks ok as I am reading under 2. I followed the instructions on FireStick.com and tested channels 1, 19, and 40. The first reading with the antenna adustment screwed all the way in was 1.9, 1.6, and 1.3. After some adjusting, I got it to read 1.6, 1.3, 1.4 . . . is this good or do I need to keep adjusting until the #s match exactly?

You'll never get them to all match.

Forget 19 - what are your readings at CH 1 and CH 40?

                CH 1 = 1.55
                CH 40 = 1.35

No problem, glad I was actually in the office. I usually spend all day Friday in the terminals.

So I went to the store and still had the SWR meter hooked up and it was reading considerably higher than earlier today . . . should I worry about this? I noticed that there is a black ruber gasket on the adjustment screw but it seems to do little to keep tension on the threads . . . am I supposed to lock the adjustment screw in place with something? Coming back from the store I stopped at the end of my street and the meter was reading lower than ever . . . I'm confused!!!

LOL, if I manage to tick off the CBP folks again like I did earlier this week, that may happen. Good rule of thumb - never argue with an overweight Customs officer that's (probably) having PMS - and is carrying a Glock.
